Total solar eclipse hits skies Friday night

Sadly, this eerie, awe-inspiring event -- known as totality -- will be visible only from remote parts of the Northern Hemisphere: Starting in northern Canada, the moon's shadow, or umbra, will glide across the Arctic into central Asia.
But that doesn't mean you can't share in the experience remotely.
NovosibirskGuide.com will broadcast the eclipse as seen from Novosibirsk, Russia. And a partial eclipse will be visible from northeastern North America, and most of Europe and Asia. If you miss out, you'll have to wait nearly a year to see the moon banish the sun in real-time. The next solar eclipse takes place on July 22, 2009, starting in India and crossing through Asia and Japan into the western Pacific Ocean. The next total eclipse visible in the U.S. will occur on August 21, 2017.

Gee, I wish it was visible just a little further south. Then maybe I could see it live too.

Ha! The title threw me off - a solar eclipse at night would be phenominal. Thanks for the reminder.

We may not be able to see it, but we can feel it, right? Probably will feel eerie...or maybe everybody will just feel ecliptical.

Don't look directly into the webcast.
You could damage your eyes.
Instead setup a webcam, point it at your computer, film the stream and then watch a copy of the copy. You should be safe that way.

LMAO! But can't I just point that standard pinhole contraption to the webcast so I can watch it in real virtual time? =P

i guess watching a webcast of the event is the second best thing next to witnessing it first hand...but doing so seems far less exciting somehow.
*yawn* ... maybe i'll tune in to check it out if i don't forget, though.

The very last eclipse that we could see well happened on my birthday.
Of course I thought it would get totally dark, but it just got all creepy outside... kinda hazy. More like twilight, but way more weird. Yeah freaky. (eyes all wide)
They say that you shouldn't look directly at it, but ... well, now I wear glasses. It was worth it. (smiles and laughs).

I looked up at the night sky on Friday and, no matter what I used--telescope, fermented liquids, herbal gases or pharmaceutical-grade solids (pill *and* powder form)--I could not see the sun's corona. The haze caused by Honolulu's city lights must have obscured it. Yeah, that must have been it. =P
I did experience, though, "the creepy freakies" like you had felt at a previous eclipse (and I, as well, when I witnessed that glorious one back in '91 on the Big Island of Hawaii). Then again, feeling weirded out and wide-eyed is nothing unusual for me, especially when certain neighbors of mine are home, LOL.

how could my inane comment have been picked for TV if the story itself wasn't?
I think the newspod staff are getting trigger happy. - 3 years ago

I believe it was picked for the UK. Normally if you see you are picked and the story isn't...that's how it works.

Anytime. And if you want to see it used then you need to search for Current News and the hit newest. Look at the email you got and go by how many hours have past to try and narrow it to which one yours would be in. After that it's guess and check.
Yes I've done this...ha.
