A northeast Georgia town that unsuccessfully tried for years to close a local strip club finally gave up and purchased it instead ... for nearly $1 million.Lavonia’s mayor got a standing ovation when he announced the purchase at a meeting this week. Crews quickly took down the signs advertising the club and burned them in a large bonfire at the strip club site.
Officials have since passed an ordinance banning adult entertainment businesses.
Instead of buying the club, town officials could have used the money to pay off the bond fund for its water treatment plant upgrade.

I guess sex does really sell - it seems politicians are in the "double standard" mode as usual when it comes to something going their way

I suspect that the Mayor and town council owned the club.

As a resident from a small Georgia town, I can say that yes, boobs are bad!
I love where I live, but sometimes the small town frame of mind just makes me shake my head. In my area churches protested a Hooters being built. But I would bet money they go eat there now.

I think it's a fine way to solve their problem. They have a right to try to live the way they want, just like we do, and if they can afford it good for them.

"There's salmonella in the water and no money to fix it? Well, at least we have a boob-free environment!"

This has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard. No wonder rural America doens't care about Change, their biggest problem is exposure to bare breast.

It says a lot about these people when they determine this is the best use of a million dollars of public money.
I guess everyone there is rich.
I'm glad there are no sick, injured or hungry people in northeast Georgia. The place is probably perfect now that all that sin and smut are gone.

I wonder if religion was involved. Seem like that would be the only thing powerful enough to give up clean drinking water. A naked women is not the end of the world.

It reminds me of another stupid saying I coined at some point, "If you can't beat 'em, just buy 'em out."
