I prefer to filter my own water, carry extra whenever possible..but I don't have any reason to trust our government to keep water pure...everything in this country goes to the highest bidder.

EPA has set the arsenic standard for drinking water at .010 parts per million (10 parts per billion) to protect consumers served by public water systems from the effects of long-term, chronic exposure to arsenic. Water systems must comply with this standard by January 23, 2006, providing additional protection to an estimated 13 million Americans.

Vierotchka:
Thanks for the feedback. Also an important issue.
Things like that are the reason we need to keep water from becoming privatized. Then we will have NO control over the standards.

You are more likely to get sick from the very things you do not suspect...meaning at your average restaurant the back of the toilet seat is often cleaner than the mint bowl. I won't even mention the bacterial colonies in that cushioned seat! Anyway, use it or lose it. We have to drink tap water and make the EPA keep it drinkable. Drinking high carbon foot print bottled water is not a feasible option. It simply doesn't work. Whatever happened to the nalgene bottles? If people really want filtered water provide the source and let the consumer provide a reusable container. Everyone wins! Bottled water simply does not work, not in the short run not in the long run.

This is a great trend . . . half of the bottled water probably comes from the tap anyway!
