Wouldn't this new "muscle" be in the wrong places?

Yeah, but obese people are full of 'bad' fat, so the change won't be as dramatic as it sounds in the headline.

This is a bad idea, it wont help with weight problems because muscle weighs more than fat, also wont it just turn a big fat person, into an even bigger muscular person.
Also, what a picture to choose for this topic xD

Not to be a dick, but could you change the title of this article?
Scientists have NOT found a way to turn fat into muscle, the article doesn't state that at all.
This is a bit misleading.
" But there are two distinct types of fat tissue: white 'bad' fat acts as an energy store whereas brown 'good' fat, which largely disappears by adulthood, also helps in burning calories to generate body heat, which is crucial to keep babies warm.
Now one team has shown how to promote the manufacture of "good" brown fat, so we can burn more calories, while a second team, also working nearby on the US east coast in Boston, has shown how brown fat and muscle are linked, suggesting ways to interconvert the two. Both offer a new strategy to fight flab."
It's just suggested, and it doesn't fight "white" fat, which is what most of us have.

OK....i couldn't look at the first pic for very long and the second one was almost just as bad.
There is something to say about a picture saying a thousand words!
I'll never eat or lift weights again, LOL!

That's exactly what exercise does - a fat person who exercises a lot doesn't lose weight, instead, their muscle mass increases.

I'm sure this is the kinda therapy that will give bodybuilders a bad name - or at least the question will always be hovering - did he really work out, take steroids or just had fat treatment..?

I think this would help in small amounts so that it would help naturally (for the rest) burn off the remaining fat.

That seems like a pretty awesome idea. Kinda like recycling.
I'll bet there's some sort of risk attached to it though, or it's super expensive, or something. Tell us, what's the catch?

I'm thinking good ol' diet and exercise are the way forward. We shouldn't rely on science to pull ourselves out of our over-indulgent, over-eating, junk food culture.

be optimistic Abby, in the future we will be able to eat as much cake as we want, for every bite we'll lose weight, and then if things turn out well we won't have to work, because each bite of cake will send $.79 to our PayPal accounts. We'll just spend our entire lives eating cake, chilling out, listening to Jack Johnson or something.

Surely this won't be that much of a quick fix. I can't imagine it will improve the strain on the vital organs of overweight people. I can imagine a heart having to work a lot harder to power muscle than it does to fat.
P.S. *Awesome photo*

If they did this to a REALLY fat person, wouldn't it just look ridiculous: instead of a big bag of flab they'd become a big, solid bag of muscle!
