by Dr. Mae-Wan Ho and Prof. Joe CumminsPreliminary findings suggest a link between Morgellons Disease and Agrobacterium, a soil bacterium extensively manipulated and used in making GM crops; has genetic engineering created a new epidemic?
CDC launch investigation on Morgellons’ Disease
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States announced the launch of an investigation on ‘Morgellons Disease’ in January 2008, after receiving thousands of complaints from people with this bewildering condition, which it describes as follows: “Persons who suffer from this unexplained skin condition report a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads, fibers, or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin, and/or skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). In addition to skin manifestations, some sufferers also report fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain, and changes in visions.”
Morgellons Disease first became known in 2001, when Mary Leitao created a web site describing the illness in her young son, which she named after a 17th century medical study in France describing similar symptoms. Until then, people with Morgellons Disease have been diagnosed as cases of “delusional parasitosis”, in which the symptoms are deemed entirely imaginary, and lesions allegedly due to self-inflicted wounds.
Indeed, the debate over Morgellons Disease has continued in the pages of medical and scientific journals right up to the CDC’s announcement.
Dr. Michele Pearson, principal investigator for the CDC said that the primary goals of the study are “to learn more about who may be affected with this condition, the symptoms they experience and to look for clues about factors that might contribute to the condition,” adding that the condition is “complex”, and “may be due to multiple factors.”
In response to questions from journalists at the CDC press conference, Pearson said:
“We are aware that many patients have suffered from this condition. And, I can tell you that here at CDC, we have really been seeing an increasing number of these reports over the past year or so.”
CDC’s investigation is to be carried out in conjunction with Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Division of Research and the US Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
Dr. Joe Selby, Director of the Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Division of Research, said the study would proceed in three stages. In the first stage, they will identify all members who may have seen a Kaiser Permanente physician with symptoms suggestive of this condition at any point during the 18 months between July 1 2006 and December 31, 2007, and determine whether they meet eligibility criteria for the study. In stage two, all eligible members will be invited to complete a comprehensive web based or telephone survey conducted by the CDC that examines the duration and severity of a variety of symptoms. And in stage three, those with active symptoms will be invited to the division of research for an extensive clinical examination including collection of skin biopsies, blood and urine samples.

As I consider this a possibility, I think about all those that would have science or god or society as only thought valid if conforms to their way of thinking.

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta announced Wednesday plans to look into a condition known as Morgellons Disease. Symptoms include the sensation of bugs crawling under the skin, lesions and strange red, blue or black fibers coming from those lesions. "We believe that the suffering many people associate with this condition is best addressed by a careful, objective scientific analysis," said Dr. Michele Pearson, CDC. North Texan Cindy Casey has been suffering from the bizarre condition for years. Casey and many other Morgellons patients have been dismissed by the medical community and, in some cases, told they were delusional. While Casey is hopeful the CDC will be open minded in their investigation, she's still concerned. "We've basically gotten such lip service from the CDC for so long that I would not know if they were being sincere," she said. The CDC along with Kaiser Permanente will conduct the study over the next year in northern California, one of the places shown to have a high number of Morgellons cases. http://nevernwo.blogspot.com/ - 4 years ago

Symptoms Of
Morgellons Affliction
Material ©2006 Rense.com
May Not Be Reproduced In Whole Or Part
10-24-6(A comprehensive list of symptoms compiled from first-hand input and a consensus of sufferers.)
You - or someone you know - may have Morgellons Disease and not realize it yet.
Morgellons symptoms fit into many other illness profiles. They may appear slowly and take years to culminate into full-blown Morgellons Disease. And symptoms may occur intermittently over time, appearing to go into remission and then resurfacing.
Symptoms are often rationalized as being "nothing," thoughtlessly disregarded or misdiagnosed. Even worse, victims are placed in the diagnostic category: Delusional Parasitosis.
It is believed that pets also get Morgellons, exhibiting many of the same symptoms as humans, which are sometimes fatal.
For the most part, medical professionals and veterinarians are unaware of Morgellons. At present, no official diagnostic code exists for insurance companies. Research is currently under way. Labs are soon to report in-depth results of their findings.
As grassroots awareness continues, it is sadly inevitable that many more sufferers - both human and animal - will surface. And that's the hairy, 800-pound gorilla in the room.

So, I looked into that source and it directs to:
http://www.i-sis.org.uk/error/login_error.php?location=The "Institute of Science and Society" . . . sounds official doesn't it.
However the link to the paper doesn't even give an abstract like any other respectable source would without paying a membership fee, which would be odd for a legitimate source.
So I looked at the displayed list of their recent publications for sale:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------I'm sorry but this doesn't appear to be a respectable source at all since all of these recent publications appear to slant to a particular "organic" mantra.
Also, their self-applied description of:
"Science in Society magazine The only radical science magazine on earth". . . demands incredulity to this being a viable source of rational information.
The term "radical" implies a lax set of rules and science is not "radical" by nature. If you can't prove something through a thorough use of the scientific method and proper data analysis techniques , then you can't prove it.
So instead of just singularly dismissing the agrobacterium hypothesis off of one bad source, I tried looking it up on scholar.google.com . . . and I could find nothing that had both the words agrobacterium and Morgellons or Morgellons and GMO. I welcome you to find a published article in a respected peer-reviewed journal if you can, I however can not.
So, as it looks . . . your source is invalid and there is not yet any proven link to the Hypothesis that Morgellons is caused by GMO's.

this has been dismissed for years by the same administration that banned the labeling of GMO products as such "not to Alarm the public guinea pigs" the American customer EU banned anything that could be modified from entering its market at that time .
If you are just hearing of this and you used your mouse to disprove this to your self nothing I say will change that congratulations on joining Li'l bush's fan club !

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say ras . . . that there is some big conspiracy?
Well the scientific community doesn't buy into conspiracies. If there is an actual physical link between gmo's and Morgellons . . . someone somewhere WILL find it and publish it, then others will replicate the findings . . . and then we will know one way or the other.
Scientists LOVE discovering new things . . . it makes them look good and they really don't give a damn about corporate interests. There is plenty of scientists that would absolutely love to find if this link exists and get the credit for it.
But, until one does and publishes it in a respectable peer-reviewed journal, this is all hearsay. After all, for all we know Morgellons could be caused by a new virus that mutated naturally . . . that does happen in nature after all (hence the fear of avian flu).
And for the record, I'm not a Republican or a Democrat . . . if I had to classify my politics it would probably fall mostly in the province of Libertarian (and not the whiny, eccentric-protectionist Ron Paul variety, but I guess more of the Bill Mahr Variety).
The bottom line is that I look for the truth where ever I can find it on a case by case basis, and in this case . . . we are talking about a newly identified disease with UNKNOWN origins.
So if you want to believe the assumption that the bad people in the air with their "chemtrails", or the bad people in the laboratories with their agrobacterium are out to get us . . . then by all means live in your delusional world based on far fetched assumptions. Just don't expect the rational individuals of the world to agree with you.

this disease was first subscribed 300 years ago and in the past 7 years started to show up by the 1,000's in the US the same time GMO's hit the market !
want more "evidence" look at the fibers under a microscope for Agrobacterium & Morgellons Disease
no it's not a conspiracy it's pure unadulterated greed, yes the truth will come out but as usual it will be too late
sorry to disagree but I truly believe this

What you believe and what is true may not be the same thing. Proof is required.
BTW, the new disease is not the old Morgellons from 300 years ago . . . only in name.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/morgellons-disease/SN00043Not to mention your own source says basically the same thing:
http://www.morgellons-disease-research.com/history-of-morgellons-disease.htmlThese 2 sites do not appear to be valid sources of info:
http://www.rense.com/general74/morg4.htm
http://nevernwo.blogspot.com/However, I do have to give you sincere congratulations though. The wikipedia entry on agrobacteria that you linked has source for an article that is not online (which seems to have been misquoted on wiki, but regardless). However, I was able to look up the author, a Dr. Raphael B Stricker, and he had published another paper discussing the possible link . . . citing the source on wikipedia.
http://nielsmayer.com/morgellons07.pdfGuess what, this actually appears to be a credible source! So let's take a look:
Page3, Pathophysiology, 2nd Paragraph:
"There is preliminary information that some Morgellons fibers are made of cellulose, but this information has neither been formally evaluated nor confirmed." . . . and then further explains how cellulose-protein is a minor part of mammalian connective tissue and that these connective tissue fibers were found in higher amounts in other patients with other pathological skin disorders.3rd paragraph:
"The presence of Agrobacterium in Morgellons skin lesions suggests that this plant bacterium may be involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. Further investigation is required to confirm this novel hypothesis."Page 5 2nd paragraph:
"An intriguing possibility is that the agent of Morgellons disease is transmitted by a tick bite. . . .support for this hypothesis is lacking at present."Treatment:
"Since the etiologic agent of the disease is unknown at present, . . ."The author's conclusion . . . there "may" be a link to agrobacterium . . . however more research is NEEDED.
However! There is a snag in all of this as the author Raphael B Stricker has had at least one run in with the NIH over ethical misconduct:
"Raphael B. Stricker, M.D., University of California at San Francisco. An investigation conducted by the University found that Dr. Stricker falsified data for a manuscript . . ."
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not93-177.htmlAnd since he quotes himself as his source for the agrobacterium connection . . . I REALLY can not trust this guy until other people confirm his findings. (It's also cute that he describes his own hypothesis as "novel")
Falsifying data is a very VERY serious thing in the scientific community and doing it once is a serious black mark to that requires everything after to be taken with a grain of salt.
[I also found it amusing on a personal level that I lived across the street from where this guy works back when I lived in SF, small world]
