Anti-War protesters have every right to yell "F**k FOX News!"

That's the response FOX's Griff Jenkins receives when he throws himself into a swarm of marching anti-war protesters. Jenkins plays incredulous well in this clip, asking over and over again why the protesters don't believe in freedom of speech—the irony of ironies, considering these protesters are exercising their first amendment rights with every step they take.
As Jenkins is drowned out by a "Fuck FOX News!" chorus and disappears among a sea of middle fingers flipped at the camera, he cries out, "That's just not necessary." Au contraire, Mr. Jenkins. These calls are entirely necessary, considering FOX has served as the propaganda arm of the Bush administration for the last eight years.
FOX has been Bush's biggest cheerleader in his war with Iraq. FOX joined the corporate media in drumming up support for the war, preying on a vulnerable nation by drawing the false connection between Iraq and 9/11 and touting the administration's so-called "evidence" of WMDs. Even as other corporate outlets realized their awful mistake when evidence proved the administration had no justification to go into Iraq, FOX offered no mea culpa. Instead, the network continued to pretend the war was succeeding, when the reality was it had become a brutal quagmire that continues to this day. But FOX didn't stop with Iraq. Oh, no. For more than a year now, the network has been war-whooping over Iran as well.
FOX is guilty of war- and fearmongering, spreading the administration's lies at every turn, and smearing those who try to set the record straight. So "Fuck FOX News?" I'd say these anti-war protesters get the message just right.

Dear Americans,
I would like to propose a "NATIONAL STRIKE DAY" for every American that is able. I have heard France has been doing this with great success. Please let us get everyone engaged here and anywhere we can post this message or one of your own.
The Questions I would ask here are as follows: What day should it be and when and how often? Once a month to start or? I believe this would really give the people back their power in this country. It is time to take action! If we do not take some action now as our Declaration of Independence says we have the right and obligation to, it looks like our country will fall.
People are losing their homes by the millions, and jobs of course with it, and our government with the media's help are trying to hide it from us. They are going to let us just fall, we have to save ourselves, to many good people's lives are being ruined.
This is the responsibility of a free people. Be sure the world bankers have a diabolical plan for us and unless we truly want to be slaves, we have to do something. I am open to other ideas, or maybe someone is already doing this (I heard something). I plead with each American here on Twitter to get involved and support this idea, and everywhere else we can get this message out.
This will be a peaceful way to get our government's attention, while we take back our country. Trust me if George Washington and the many honorable men and women who fought our war of Independence were here today, they would have already taken action years ago, many years ago, and I doubt it would be very peaceful.
Thus, no one works until our demands are met. Start with say five or ten demands. So my idea, proposal is that Americans just go to the street, your city hall, or what is ever appropriate in your state. No one works until our demands are met. But absolutely No violence, no vandalism, no matter what please. That will destroy our honest political cause afforded us by our constitution. In fact, we should make, in my opinion that it is a very somber and quite sit in, almost complete silence until our demands are met, so they cannot try and intimidate people or arrest them unlawfully as they have been doing. I believe this is very important point, no conflict what so ever, just freeze everything. We are all allowed to stay home from work. We need to get employers involved obviously.
My list of demands start as follows:
1.) No more bail outs, but instead money is to be given directly to the American people.
I heard some experts are saying that this is the only real cure, some 450,000.00 to each American is the answer to our financial crisis. http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?=263212.) Abolish the IRS, period!
3.) Reinstate our fourth Amendment rights.
4.)
5.)
I hope others will give their suggestions. I would recommend we elect a board and thus work to organize our first AMERICAN NATIONAL STRIKE DAY, or if someone has already started this, please if anyone is aware of this let me know.

It's crazy that people here are defending Fox's "right to free speech."
Or defending the right of Fox Viewers to watch Fox News. "those meanie liberals are infringing on their rights to watch!"
1) They are a corporation. They don't get rights.
2) News is a commodity for consumption. Like Polaroid Film. When Polaroid stopped making instant film, they weren't infringing on my right to free speech.
3) Those poor Fox News anchors... all they have is a multibillion dollar media empire, with newspapers, communications satellites, camera crews, local affiliates, Television studios, several cable channels, and a dedicated spectrum of the radio waves! How dare those average citizens with no TV station yell at them!

OMG Faux News is a joke. The Simpsons could not have made a more ridiculous parody. The jackass reporter hurls himself into the crowd and is yelling at them, asking what their message is, even as he walks UNDER their giant banner. Everyone knows not to talk to Faux because they'll edit the message and distort it.
Fuck Fox News is about the only thing they can't distort, but they do try - I like how the future Maxim model newsreader implies the dude might be hurt by the peaceful crowd. Hilariously sad. Thanks for the post!

Ok... now that there are so many on this subject, I would like to respectively add one more thing.
This is funny. The crowd of citizens protesting was rather small...
although the camera man did try to keep where the people ended out of sight, because that totally ruins the story.
Yeah.
Funny.
Please don't you guys (that are posting these stories and are so excited) have more to think about than Fox news? This is the DNC, is there nothing newsworthy there?
Does Fox news have that much power over your life.. to like mess it up that much?
Just curious. They don't affect my life that way.
I have the power to change the channel of my tv. And I do this when ever I feel like it.(laughs... by this like 9th story on this ... it's so overdone for something that wasn't even a substantial event.)
Was there nothing about the DNC that is news worthy that people have to focus on Fox?
Seriously.
Do you guys spend your time fretting over this?
I hope not.
I thought there were true issues to be considered in the election. But you guys are hung up on Fox?
Insane sounding? possibly. But maybe it's as simple as a pure pavilion response to the very words of
"FOX news" to this audience? Also the first amendment rights extend equally to the protesters as it does for any and all News stations, and that does include Fox.

Some of us can, and do, look at the political tarmac that is bullshit ready to take off in a serious way. Fox has unbelievable ratings. They reach millions of homes in this country. Last I heard everyone can tune into what ever news they want.
I don't wish for any news team to be overpowered by anyone personally. No matter what they are attempting to report.
If it was MSNBC or CNN would people be this rude?
I say pathetic attitude.
A divided United States is not what our goal should be. yet here I see it in almost every political post.
In case anyone is confused, I think that Fox and other stations should have the same first amendment rights as everyone else.
Thank you.

What part of this has to do with Fox's first amendment right? They are there, aren't they? The protesters can say or not say what they want, can't they? Fox will report this, won't they? Where is the instance of first amendment right infringement here?
Fox's Griff attempts to frame the political protesters in a rhetorically-convoluted light by shouting a pathetically incoherent pseudo-question about freedom of speech. This is a pure mass protest, the freedom to assembly being exercised. To Fox, freedom of speech entails acknowledging Fox by speaking into their camera, nothing less.

You think Fox News is a 'propaganda machine'???? Current.com hasn't had a conservative story submitted since I added it to my rotation of news sites. It is WAY more biased that Fox News has even been. Almost every story is about dying polar bears or Bush hating.
I like to get both sides of the story and I sure as heck don't get it here! I agree with dabne above. The fact that they showed all of this anti-Fox-News material on Fox News goes a long way to show their balanced side. You cannot slam Fox News without slamming this site.

The problem with the Current.com submissions is that they are being controlled by a heavily liberal audience and a heavily liberal in house team that can actually vote stories down.
So what you end up with is a very liberal and anti-conservative homepage. We can add all the conservative content we want but the liberal audience will keep it hidden by voting it down. I know this because I have submitted plenty of stuff. Current.com does not represent America, it represents the blue states of America. I've never seen anything that vote's stories down!!! Down? What message does that send? How about just not vote.
It's too bad because Current could really make a difference I think if they reached out to more conservatives and balanced their content. But their not interested in that because they like all outlets have an agenda. Instead it's just a forum for liberals to rant and rave and slam any conservative viewpoint offered. Where is the value in that?

I just watched the "F*ck Fox News" clip on youtube and I thought that it was inappropriate for them to say that on the station, however this is what is bound to happen when a news agency takes a political stance or a certain side of issues as Fox repeatedly and shamelessly does. When they do that they handicap their ability to report on anything but their niche market. These disillusioned people don't even trust them enough to report their message. The lesson is Fox has a long way to go before they earn back the respect of the "left wing" or the "left, middle or right winged informed" viewer.

The federal government and the states have long been permitted to restrict obscenity or pornography. While obscenity generally has no protection under the First Amendment, pornography is subject to little regulation. The exact definition of obscenity and pornography, however, has changed over time.
When it decided Rosen v. United States in 1896, the Supreme Court adopted the same obscenity standard as had been articulated in a famous British case, Regina v. Hicklin. The Hicklin standard defined material as obscene if it tended “to deprave or corrupt those whose minds are open to such immoral influences, and into whose hands a publication of this sort may fall.” The Court ruled in Roth v. United States, 354 U.S. 476 (1957) that the Hicklin test was inappropriate. Instead, the Roth test for obscenity was “whether to the average person, applying contemporary community standards, the dominant theme of the material, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest.”
Justice Potter Stewart, in Jacobellis v. Ohio, 378 U.S. 184 (1964), famously stated that, although he could not precisely define pornography, "I know it when I see it."
The Roth test was expanded when the Court decided Miller v. California, 413 U.S. 15 (1973). Under the Miller test, a work is obscene if it would be found appealing to the prurient interest by an average person applying contemporary community standards, depicts sexual conduct in a patently offensive way and has no serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. Note that "community" standards—not national standards—are applied whether the material appeals to the prurient interest; thus, material may be deemed obscene in one locality but not in another. National standards, however, are applied whether the material is of value. Child pornography is not subject to the Miller test, as the Supreme Court decided in New York v. Ferber, 458 U.S. 747 (1982). The Court thought that the government's interest in protecting children from abuse was paramount.

This is hardly propaganda. Fox News reported on the march and even kept the "F**K Fox News" chants in their report. The reporter mentioned many of the people and groups being represented in the march and he even restated the chant and message "Stop the torture! Stop the War! So where is the propaganda? Fox actually got right in the middle of the march. They only cut away when the crowd started chanting the F word which can't be used on live TV.
Again I applaud Fox News for showing me these people and getting their message. The message was "F**k Fox News"
Again, what part of this is propaganda?
Lastly, why do some of these marchers wear masks? What are they afraid of? They are obviously afraid of being recognized. By wearing masks they look like robbers and terrorists and create an image that obviously is not going to help their cause. Demonstrators need to have more common sense when they do things like this so that their message can be better understood.

While we are given freedom of speech, profanity is not covered under that clause. So after that people pull out freedom of expression as an excuse for profanity. But if you infringe on the freedoms of others to not hear that kind of language coming from your mouth, now you have a problem. See with cursing coming from TV or Radio, you can choose to not listen or just turn it off, but when you are in a public setting someone may not be able to shut you up, or walk away quick enough to stop from hearing you cursing.
It is a big issue that will never be solved.

Bbuff:
Actually, Buff, you are totally incorrect. Profanity - like, bad words - is free speech. No one has the "freedom not to hear that language." That "freedom" does not exist, like it or not.
You may be thinking of obscenity. When the courts have stepped in to regulate speech, it has often been in a dispute over so-called "obscene" speech. However, even these kinds of cases - which are frequently brought against pornographers - are almost always won by the "obscene" speaker.
TV is regulated, though, to protect children. However, even in that situation, it is obscenity that we're talking about. That is, casual "Oh shit!" on TV might not elicit a fine from the FCC, unless the "shit" referred to excrement. Same thing with "fuck." If "fuck" refers to sex, it can be considered obscene; when it's just an exclamation, it is merely profane. Nevertheless, most television networks censor themselves to avoid upsetting their sponsors, who might pull advertising dollars if they do not like the content of the network.
This Fox news guy was totally asking for it.

That "reporter" is a total imbecile, "not all of them are Obama fans." Do they do research at FOX? I hope nobody tells him what protesters thought of L.B.J. in the 60's.

Under most circumstances I'd have to agree with you. However in this case that strategy doesn't seem to be working. Fox News' ratings are way up and as long as they are up we can all can write them letters till our hands fall off and they'll do absolutely no good. The fact of the matter is Fox News is doing the country a great dis-service by airing government propaganda and half-truths that cause people to believe things that are patently false. A great example occurred in 2002 when most people in the U.S. believed Saddam Hussein played a part in the attacks of 9/11 when in fact he didn't. This paved the way for the eventual attack by american forces. We can all thank Fox News for hammering that false notion home every hour of every day for the two years leading up to the invasion. The same thing is happening now with global warming. Fox News is still running "news" stories where they interview "scientists" who are don't believe that human activities factor into the planet's climate change. How they sleep at night I have no idea.

Within the first minute she describes the protest march as "far Left wing political groups."
Now is that a news "fact" or is it mere commentary and spin?
Notice how cleverly Fox News blends the two together (about as subtle as a sledgehammer).
Griff then goes straight to someone in the crowd wearing a mask (clearly someone representative of the entire march since the majority WEREN'T wearing masks) and asks "What is your message?"
The guy says "Fuck you!"
Giff then goes on to describe how all these protesters are radical, America-hating nutjobs further to the Left than even the Weather Underground --- and then casually remarks, "What is surprising is these people don't support Obama!"
Subtle! Because you'd think anyone that hates America as much as Barack "Terrorist Fist Jab" Obama would be a supporter!
So this dude is standing in the middle of a march, shoves a microphone in someone's face and screams "What's your message?" Crack journalism! It definitely takes 8 years of Journalism school to shove a mic into someone's face and scream, "What's yer message?" Finally someone says "Stop the torture and stop the war!"
He doesn't respond. Ignores it totally and then keeps insisting that no one will speak so, therefore, they all hate America and don't support the 1st Amendment. Again, he's just a journalists reporting the facts. No commentary here. Fair and balanced.
The ending was priceless. People are chanting "Fuck Fox News!" and he starts acting likes he is being attacked and beaten by the "out of control crowd" -- the female host then gravely turns to the camera and says that we'll hear more from Griff....if he survives the violent encounter with the rampaging America-hating Leftists!
Fer Crissake.
Kevin Costner's "Waterworld" had much better acting.
I bet the next scene will have Griff in the hospital covered in fake blood discussing how he was barely able to escape the evil Lefty crowd.
"Someone shot me," Griff will say into the camera. "But thankfully I always carry a Bible with me....and that stopped the bullet! Clearly God saved me from being murdered by the socialist Democrats."
He's just a journalists reporting the facts. No spin, no personal opinions....just the "facts."

Actually, when the man said "Stop the Torture, Stop the War," the reporter re-stated his comment, he didn't ignore it.
Also, he doesn't pretend to be attacked he just sends it back to the studio because the "F" word can't be used on live TV.
Many of your observations are off. Did you forget we could watch the video above your comment.

Of course, they try to spin it into something horrible. Sorry, when they said Fuck Fox News, that's freedom of speech and they were expressing it. And yet, they spin it and call them all sorts of names that makes them look bad.

I agree. I feel bad for the people who are there who really do want to get their message out. Ofcoarse, I have no doubt that Fox chose the largest group of extremists from the whole crowd to question. Throw in a reporter who runs head first into that crowd and begins grabbing at people and getting in their face and you're bound to get some type of hostile reaction.
