A baby boy, named Kiron, was born with two heads by Cesarean section in Bangladesh on Monday.

An estimated 150,000 people from the region descended on the clinic to try to catch sight of the boy so he was moved to a larger hospital and placed under police protection.

Dr Mohamad Abdul Bari, the mother's gynaecologist, said: "He has one stomach and he is eating normally with his two mouths. He has one genital organ and a full set of limbs. He was born from one embryo but there was a developmental anomaly."

The clinic had been unable to determine whether the baby had one or two sets of vital organs, Dr Bari said.

Kiron's life was not in immediate danger but he and his 22-year-old mother were moved to the hospital in the nearby city of Jessore city because of the large crowds that had gathered at the clinic, the doctor said.

According to a local newspaper, many well-wishers had left money for the baby's family.

Update: 28th August. Sadly the baby died after the parents took him home because they could not afford adequate medical care.

    • im sorry to say it, but in my mind its better that they pass on, not because like i have something against them, but imagine the pressure theyd have to go through during their life, or his life? (idk) but i mean like, up until about 8thgrade, he/they 'd be look down upon from classmates because thats simply how kids are. It is however, disappointing that he/they died because the parents couldnt afford medical care. y didnt the gov't step in?

    • I'd like to say it could be due to sub-standard living conditions or vitamin deficiencies- but I don't think that ever happened in America even a long long time ago- at least not that I've ever heard of.
It has to be a mineral or something in their water or something. Something floating in the air or something. So, all along the Indians thought these deformed people were Gods, but really it's just like a defect caused by like, too much copper or something. HAHAHAHA

    • that's sad the baby died, coz i want to know what he would have grown up like. why is it that all these weird anomalies appear in or around india, you don't hear much of babies being born anywhere else with two heads, and two arms and two legs(on the same body), or 8 limbs, or two faces. Is it because developed countries have better health care and get sonograms and can see when babies are developing abnormally and abort them, or does it just not happen? and interrestingly enough they all resemble gods. I can't wait for the elephant headed baby to be born, that'll be a tough one to explain.

    • Forgive me, but only one word comes to my mind....freaky. A person with two heads would scare the living, breathing, shit out of me. Kind of reminds me of Monty Python's Holy Grail.

    • Muslim Bangladeshi must indeed be curious:

Hindu Bangladeshi regard firey two headed vedic Agni as the spark of life, the name Kiron meaning "rays of sun". One can but wonder what future thoughts and messages he will bring to his country.

    • This does raise a lot of questions about identity.. would the two heads be like identical twins? Or exactly the same person but somehow with two brains? Do both feel stimulus on the rest of the body? Facinating.

    • I realize this type of thing happens everywhere in the world but it just seems like it is prominent in this area of the world. Wonder if there is anything specific that contributes to these anomalies.

    • If someone married someone with two heads or a Siamese Twin....are they considered a polygamist? (I know the baby here is male and there is a female word for Polygamist---but it would ruined the flow.)

Kiron is a cool name, by the way. I stare in fascination than whoa what is that....I find that to be important so that if I ever had such a child or a child that was different and people stared I would say, "They are staring at you out of fascination not out of fear."

I think it's cool that people are leaving money. That's kind of them.

    • I bet the left head will be the more dominant one, as it seems to be bigger and set more straight on the body. Of all the conjoined twin stories i've seen, the twin that is more physically prominent and straight is the leader.

    • Im still confused, I thought two brains means two seperate minds and people. Unless one brain controls both heads!?!

      ahh, so wierd.

I hope they can live a healthy life.

    • I have a hard enough time getting my own thoughts together. I hope they don't end up having different ideologies, although it'd be awesome taking tests with another head there to store memory. If they got married would it be to the same woman or do they each get one? Enough of my bad thoughts, I hope they have a good life.

    • but are there two personalities...? if they are two seperate people with two seperate minds, they should have their own names right?

anyone know why this kind of stuff happens to happen, it seems, often in this region of the world?

You'll find it happens in the the undeveloped parts of the world most frequently because an issue such as this would have bee discovered by the mother's doctor early in the pregnancy and probably aborted.

Also the health, nutrition, environmental exposures are bigger issues and could have been responsible for the issues with the fetus.

    • Human anomalies have always fascinated me. I always wonder which person controls which limbs and such... and what if they have a pinching competition!? What about the skin... do both feel everything or does one feel half/some skin... I mean, if the left hand gets burned, will both feel it?!

They'd be really good at Guitar Hero.

    • So what then happens if it's got 1 heart? Doesn't that indicate 1 being over & above any number of heads it does possess...?

gotta go w/ delia on that... are you talking in terms of the proverbial heart? I mean the "soul" of the child? Or in less biblical terms... personalities? Or just another organ that pumps blood. The brain, scientifically, would be what really determines their personality traits and separates them wouldn't it?

You said it. Funny how you can't see a neck on either one of the heads? This shot is so fake it isn't even funny. What is funny is the fact that so many people buy it. If this were legit, it would be all over the news channels. I'll bet the same people who beieve this also thought that the Bigfoot corpse was real too.

Yes, this is very true. P.T. Barnum would have paid this child's parent's a fortune to make him into a star. I only hope he doesn't turn into some kind of religious icon to the people of India, since he does seem to be like their Hindu Creation god as someone else pointed out.

    • This is crazy, does only one mouth need to feed to keep the other head going? One if one head is gay and the other is straight??? OH MY GOD. So many questions. does only one head control the body and the other head is just for show?? The next stage of evolution??

      Absolutely mind boggling.

    • It happened in 1990 when Abigail and Brittany Lee-Hensel were born with a similar condition. They have now both passed their driving exam and are both on track for completing college.

I can't help but feel we are exploiting the subjects of these stories though.

    • it was formed from one embryo though, which means that it is one baby with two heads, like when a turtle or lizard is born with two heads you dont say they are two lizards, you say one lizard with two heads. But there are a set of girls born here in the u.s. that share a body, and they are two girls because one girl has two arms and the other has only one, so they only really share one pair of legs and reproductive organs, this is one baby with a twin head!(the indian baby)

    • Desti3:

couldn't it be that "he" was going to be a set of identical twins and the development was interrupted, like every other set of conjoined twins. there is another set of twin girls in the usa who are just like kiron-two arms, two legs, one set of genetalia, and two brains(not sure about internal organs)-they speak for themselves and have their own minds and thoughts, they just happen to share everything from the neck down. they are two people in one body.

    • So they are treating this as one child? Since it/they have two functioning brains (which it seems to since it feeds from both), wouldn't that be two individuals that share a body? What is the minimal amount of individual organs to make it become conjoined twins rather than a single person who happens to have two heads?
