High school's kicker makes 50 yard field goals, but not allowed to play because she's a girl

This year, Kacy moved. She is now playing football at the New Creation Center (NCC). It's a private Christian school.
"She's a good kicker. She has a lot of skill, and we're just glad she's on the team," school administrator Judy Foster said.
NCC belongs to the Georgia Football League. The group oversees athletic programs for private Christian schools and home school programs. Earlier this month, the executive board called the NCC coach and said Kacy was not allowed to play because she's a girl.
......
Kacy says sometimes people ask her why she doesn't play a "girl" sport, or why she's not a cheerleader. "People were built for different things," she said. "I'm built to be a kicker. I just don't understand why people don't accept the fact that I like football and I want to play football."

i think this is all a little trivial. first off, dont blame christians for her not playing. blame parents that voted against it. secondly, she did end up playing and didnt do so well as i have read and backtracked. i also had talked with several coaches who ordered their players to not come remotely close to making contact with her. you sit there and preach equality, but is that equall? what kind of coach would turn a 230 lb sr loose on a girl of her size? and its football, stuff happens. snaps go bad, holds are fumbled and that girl gets put into a possistion where she is actually running the ball, not kicking it. i am a us marine and all about equality. my sister marines have many just as important jobs and are looked on as equal, but even the marine corps can see the obvious differences between the male and female anatomy. females are not required t up hold the same physical evaluations as males because they simply would not be able to keep up. so in return the pft (physical fitness test) is modified in a way that it can be completed by a female. it is molded so that that can achieve greatness at their level and not be held to the same standerds as a male. but how can you modify a game of live full contact football where females and males are playing to the best of their abilities? this is soo not a gender equality case, it is a safety case. who wants to take responcibility for her if she got hurt? maybe the girl herself? maybe her coach or parents? hmmm maybe? but it never really mattered anyway because the directors in charge said they didnt not want it. i feel it is sad how quick americans are to pull the gender or race card. the way i always felt was, things like gender, race, and relidgion are things we use to identify ourselves off the field, but once the ball is kicked, there is none of the above. god is not gonna save you or write a verse to make you run faster or catch better. your skin color is not gonna make you drop 20 lbs or lower your 40 yard dash to a 4.6, and your sex isnt gonna keep your bones from shattering. as we say in the corps, they all die the same. but at the minimum this has killed a good half hour of my day, and was slightly entertaining so i will give it that. i suggest that before we point anymore fingers, we get all our facts straight about the situation. name calling and the use of a foul tongue only shows ones in-ability to use basic communication skills and their LACK of higher education. remember, its our ability to use logic, and reason that keeps us out of the monkey cage at the zoo.

She should have been allowed to play. I know where they're thinking but the thinking is being put into the wrong situation. I would understand if a random girl in PE class wants to play football with the guys (I tried). But, she's a really good athlete who should be allowed to kick the damn ball! XD

Why can't she play. The NFL had a player that no one was allowed to hit...

Sorry, but why should they have to let her play? The team is all male and so is the league. They shouldn't change the rules for one person. She can join a girl's team if she wants. If there isn't one, blame the school or district. Get involved and start one. But she won't be playing in the NFL anyway.

Perhaps you should try reading the story again. She is already on the team, therefore the team is NOT all male.
The argument that they shouldn't have to change their rules (and let a girl play) is the same tired argument that was made against blacks for years, and it is just as stupid now as it was then.

A timeline of girls playing tackle football:
http://www.fortunecity.com/wembley/mueller/641/princesses/timeline.htmlAnd an ESPN report about a 5'9", 140-pound girl throwing for 3 touchdown passes in a 2005 high school football game in California. This report states that "253 girls out of 100,000 high school students in California who are playing football this year, according to the California Interscholastic Foundation".
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2187201Apparently, women have been playing football for a lot longer than I would have guessed, and there are a lot more playing today than I thought would be.

There was girl that played strong-side outside linebacker when I was in high school. This was in Missouri in 1991. Apparently she was pretty good too. Had my team made the playoffs, we would have faced her team in the first round and, as my team's starting tight end, I would have lined up against her for most of the game.
I was admittedly a little nervous about the prospect of competing against her. Part of it was that the physical, at times brutal, nature of the game and the possibility that I could severely injure her. The other part was that she would be better than I was and embarrass or injure me!
We missed the playoffs and I breathed a sigh of relief. I'm not sure what condition my ego would have been in after that confrontation. :)

I don't think there are any all-girl football teams anywhere that are allowed to compete at the level this girl plays. In fact, the last all girl football game I heard about was the insultingly gendered Bra Bowl; you know, that promotional event that was more model on model softcore porn than a real competition.
Any guesses as to why this is? I'll give you a hint: check the genders and politics of the board members of this Georgia Football League... (or any sports board of directors, for that matter)
Gendering sports is a fairly obvious and ridiculous attempt to maintain that last bastion of "male dominance."
After all, what on earth would we do if more women started beating "our boys" and stopped "looking pretty?" /sarcasm

Wow this has to be one of the most cliched stories I have ever heard. Not to sound insensitive but hasn't every heard of this at least one in their life time. Why can't people just realize that this is one of those trends that is not going to go away and just go with it?

How about, because she's good enough to play for the varsity. Perhaps the backup (male) kicker should join the girls team instead.

she should find the executive board and kick them all in the nuts.
the exectuive board is "no good"
it's always the "wide right" losers
her being a girl is just "extra points" for the team in my playbook.
