Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the US of staging the Georgian conflict. His statements echo two articles pointing to Senator John McCain's foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, in which conservative politician Pat Buchanan calls Sheunemann " a dual loyalist, a foreign agent whose assignment is to get America committed to spilling the blood of her sons for client regimes who have made this moral mercenary a rich man." Gareth Porter also states that The US is going to use a double standard to condemn Russia."
Gareth Porter is a historian and investigative journalist on US foreign and military policy analyst. He writes regularly for Inter Press Service on US policy towards Iraq and Iran. Author of four books, the latest of which is Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam.

"Mohammed Mossadegh in Iran, Jacobo Arbenz and Guatemala, Salvador Allende and Chile, and literally dozens more the like over history. The pattern in Georgia is so typical of our modus operandi that what happened there is unmistakable. "
Indeed, our monsters are of our own making. FBI stats confirm you. Those stats confirm that terrorism is ALWAYS worse under GOP regimes and for the very reasons you state. For example, 'terrorism' against US interests was three times worse under Reagan than during the Clinton years. Even the CIA recognizes this; they have a name for it: BLOWBACK!
The Bush administration notched it up a bit with by helping the 'terrorists' out and exploited their actions. Bin Laden --need I remind --was, in fact, a CIA asset. 'Al Qaeda' means "The Base".

It wouldn't surprise me if we were involved in the Georgian incursion into South Ossetia. Much like the US gov't was complicit in 9/11. No, seriously!

Putin is absolutely correct. When he came to power, I did not trust Putin and was dissapointed with his handling of the submarine incident. Since that time, Putin has proven himself the most credible and competent 'Russian' leader since Nikita Krushchev or, more recently, Mikhail Gorbachev.
It is unfortunate for the the US and the world that US leadership over this period of time had been dominated by the likes of Ronald Reagan ( who blinked when Gorbachev put TOTAL nuclear disarmament on the table at Rekjavik) Bush Sr. and now the Junior Bush who is already remembered as the WORST 'President' in American history. Yes -- Putin is absolutley correct. Bush and the evil cabal that props him up have most certainly staged and exploited this entire episode.

Someone was bound to step forward with this accusation. Putin was the most likely to do so.
My gut tells me that he's right on target. - 3 years ago

Nobody's questioning that they have been victimized, Vierotchka, but have they been victims of the Georgians or the Georgian government?

I'm afraid in this instance. I honestly don't believe the American side or the Russian side. There has to be a truth somewhere in between the two.
