It seems in the wake of another devastating hurricane, people are obviously keen to stock up on as many provisions as possible, but some stores have opted to stock up on a rather unusual product; pop tarts.

Rouses Markets stores in and around New Orleans have said they always stock up on the toaster treats when there's a hurricane threat, as well as other, more necessary products, like bottled water and ice.

"It's all ready," said Rouses Markets President Donald Rouse. "We just have to push a button."

Not all stores have anticipated the pop-tart spike that Rouse speculates, but others admitted they would be the first things to go, along with other 'comfort foods' like cookies and chips.

Linda Parent, a cashier at the Circle K in Gretna, said the facility probably would sell out of Pop-Tarts before Gustav makes landfall, though water and ice would go first.
