Rouses Markets stores in and around New Orleans have said they always stock up on the toaster treats when there's a hurricane threat, as well as other, more necessary products, like bottled water and ice.
"It's all ready," said Rouses Markets President Donald Rouse. "We just have to push a button."
Not all stores have anticipated the pop-tart spike that Rouse speculates, but others admitted they would be the first things to go, along with other 'comfort foods' like cookies and chips.
Linda Parent, a cashier at the Circle K in Gretna, said the facility probably would sell out of Pop-Tarts before Gustav makes landfall, though water and ice would go first.

well in the pop tarts defense at least you know they're not going to go bad anytime soon. fruit and veggies may spoil while you're waiting out the hurricanes.
i think i would go for a stash of granola bars.

Funny how people don't rush to buy apples or anything else that would be good for them..

Has anyone here read Fast Food Nation? Its noted in the book I believe. That it is one of the most commonly consumed foods during a natural disaster of this kind.

ipodrulz: Fast Food Nation was made into a movie in 2006.

:)But, from what I understand, it wasn't really all that much like the book. Never read the book, so I can't say myself.

Comfort food's the key! Why is ice counted as a 'necessary' item?

It seems like some current users just comment in hopes of seeing their mediocre one liners on television. That is pathetic.

It's either that or people posting comments about how they're much better than everyone else (sheeple). But yes, the majority of comments on this website can be viewed as pathetic.

I am sure that when faced with disaster, nothing is more comforting than a hot Pop Tart fresh from the toaster ...

Even with the threat of natural disaster, some people are willing to crank up the obesity rate.

I suppose if all else fails they can be used to board up their houses in case they run out of plywood.
