The dangerous consequences of recruiting Nazis to serve in Iraq

The U.S. military appears to be teaching a skinhead with genocide on his mind how to become a tactical bomb maker.

    • Disturbing story.

The military has long hailed its ability to build character, establish discipline, promote teamwork, etc. The bedrocks, so to speak. I'm curious if military service might have a positive effect on these guys. (BTW, I completely understand the danger of having these guys in a war zone where they can indiscriminately "cleanse" the world, in their view; I'm speaking more about military service in general.)

Also, I wonder how their worldview fits in with military culture? Maybe a vet can comment from a position of experience.

    • If this is actually true, it is nothing new. We have been training fundamentalists the finer points of special operations for decades now. Our weapons expertise and training has especially been evident in the Middle East. Explosive improvisation, tactical deployment, independent squad procedure. These are not the methods of an ignorant people. These are skill sets. And we have been teaching the world for a long time...

    • What that neo-nazi fails to realize is that during a war, when under fire, all that racism mess is thrown out the window. He may be a white supremacist at heart, but a Black, Latino, Asian or Jewish soldier may be the one that saves his life on the battlefield. I hope he wakes up to that reality and has a change of heart.

    • With no draft the Army has had too except lessor applicants even ones with criminal back grounds so they could keep up the major number of troops in Iraq.
I have always said the best way to make change is from within. And that is just not yourself but organizations such as the Armed forces but government too.

    • Don't you have to go through a psychological evaluation to get into specialized areas of training like that? Shouldn't they be doing more in terms of learning more about those they're putting in programs like his?

    • It's not just neo-Nazis that have entered the military. Gangs like The Crips and Nortenos have had confirmed connections to military, and those members are taking their skills and training back to the streets.

    • So neo-nazis who openly seek to murder others and bring down the government that is hiring them are alright to serve, but homosexuals are a no-no? I would ask why this isnt brought up more in the national media, but you know, why bother.

I'm going to send this story to fox. let's see what good ol' billy says about this. probably something like: some damn blacks robbed this man so now he has to enlist in the military to sustain his family (of neonazis).

    • After reading this article it makes me think that the real threat as of now is not the middle east but right here at home because of these sick minded people with military experience under there belt. They will become the next terrorist of the United States, and the military is unknowingly breeding the third Reich for Neo-Nazis because they are not taking enough precaution to solve the situation.

And because Neo-Nazis are in the military they are being trigger happy and killing innocent Iraqis which in turn causes many more people to hate us! So our international relationship with countries is in bad shape not only because of bad foreign policies but also because of lunatics like these.

Wow, you language reflects that you spent time in the military. Good work. Here's a thought. Maybe some of us who don't have military experience base our opinions upon the military experience of people we know. It's good and dandy that you have had 24 years worth of military experience, but to me that comes to a big whoop de do because I don't know you. I have 2 very good friends who have recently served the military. Both of them are intelligent people. Both of them feel that, recently, the government controlling the United States military has it's head up it's ass. These two are also of the opinion that the military is currently recruiting people who are mostly either poor or stupidly violent. In the case of the poor, most of them don't sign up for another four year tour and take their GI bill for their education. The stupidly violent tend to stick around in the military and climb the non officer rank.

And outta curiosity, what did you do in the military?

    • always a few bad apple's in the bunch. I'm a white male from America and I haven't ever met a Nazi believer, EVER. The silver lining to this story is that they are now Government Property (hence the term G.I. standing for Government Issue). They are now subject to the strictest laws in our land, they have temporarily signed away their protective rights as a common citizen, and thus their right to a fair and balanced trial by a jury of their piers. I say it's the best way to separate the wheat from the chaff. They'll break some law and we'll throw the book at them.

    • How fucking stupid can the shit you guys post get? Some of the ranks here, they are not well enough thought out to be considered reasonable comment, are equally stupid - like AntiFacistCanuck.

Point out what is so stupid about it so that we can be as enlightened as you instead of slandering people. You might be right for all we know. But by putting up base posts like yours it doesn't move the discussion forward. The article seemed interesting enough to me rather than the other drivel that other people focus on like the color of Michelle Obama's dress or if some stupid celebrity did coke- that is stupid. Now who really fucking cares. Of course, the number of nazis in the military is probably quite low and they won't overthrow the government, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be talked about. Like the article points out, people like Timothy McVeigh exist so these things do necessitate some attention. Be constructive or go break something in your backyard if you need to vent.

    • However abhorrent it seems natural enough.
You got nazis running the government of the USA, they want like minded creeps in their military. Sort of like the corporations liking to have their man in office, and their man in the office likes to have his/her man behind the rifle sight.
