    • Truths, well spoken..."the corporate owned media outlets are there to serve the best interests of each other and themselves"...having the ability to script everything, just gives them more power to manipulate the masses...to keep us all well uninformed about real issues...

Our most crucial goal, as voices in defense of the contitution, our freedoms and our rights as American citizens, should be to change this unjust media system to one that does inform the public with the truth about the real issues that impact us all on a daily basis. The soluton, it seems, would be dependent on the purchase of some of the large media outlets by some very progressively minded individuals or, perhaps, a co-op of progressives. This would balance the BS with reality, scripted or otherwise...

      Great post, thanks, huntre...

    • I guess when there is more than one William Randolph Hearst and all the media moguls are doing it then even James Bond can't take them all on like he did in "Tomorrow Never Dies"

    • CSPAN was the only way to watch the conventions. The other networks were just talking to hear themselves talk. CNN and Fox ugh, they were a travesty.

    • Reality television has done a pretty good job too, of numbing people to what reality really is. Reality TV is scripted and everyone thinks it's real life.....people don't care any more. They just want to be entertained. They want a big show. It's sad.

    • Conventions are sales pitches and infomercials. So true. We see it from the speeches all the way to the sponsors. We need a station that will out the entire process for what it is. Isn't that what media should be doing? Isn't that what would contribute to giving us truly representative voting? How can we say the people vote for president and that who is elected is there because of the people when they only act on media manipulation, lies, political trickery and hearing only what polticians want them to hear in 30 second soundbite ads? It isn't only a voting machine that can disenfranchise us. Thanks Dan Rather.

    • Huntre, Thanks for this. We were just speaking this morning about the conventions: how scripted they were, how little was shown about the development of the party platform, how the thousands of alleged "journalists" were utterly jejune in their reporting. The alleged journalists appeared to have no interest in the issues and an insatiable thirst for gossip and trivialities.

We watched CSPAN during the democratic convention and couldn't even stomach watching the RNC's at all.

Go Dan Rather.........You speak with wisdom and courage.

    • Good post, my comment is this:

Dan Rather said, he doesn't think most folks realize the vast influence of corporate interest on what is going on in the convention. (in secret)

I say; most folks don't realize that the two candidates were picked by corporate interest.

      Nothing changes, then nothing changes.....

    • Bring back the fairness doctrine and some kind of law
about truth in the media. Most people are not dumb they can figure out the differences between candidates
In a lot of markets around the country corporate media
controls a one sided talk radio were listeners are brain washed. The fourth estate written into the constitution
demands a well informed puplic, we are not getting that. Thank goodness for a forum like Current to get the truth out and show how blatantly some of the brain washed republican followers are when they post their opinions.

    • Nice to see Dan Rather speak truth to Power. I guess it only took a major slip up that tarnished his career to get there. Nice post.
