Indeed, her tone was bitter as she described plans to close the park Sunday night in lieu of an agreement with the city or with private developer Thor Equities, which have competing plans for the 3-acre Brooklyn site.
"Despite rumors to the contrary, there are absolutely no negotiations going on, and there never were," said Albert, whose family has owned Astroland for more than four decades.

I'll definitely miss Astroland, so many fun and embarrassing memories I got from my trips to NY.

I don't know why everyone's so sad. They ARE going to be building lots of multi-million dollar condos, and I'm sure they'll throw a few low-income families a housing lottery to boot.
And if there's one thing I know about NYC and the surrounding boroughs, it's that our city planner's love them some fresh new condos that 80% of the citizens can't afford.

How sad! I never got to go, but I'm always sad when a park closes.

I just google mapped it since I never really see it, unless the Nathan's hot dog eating contest is on.
Let me guess, they're going to make it into a parking lot, or a mini shopping center. - 3 years ago

It's really one of a kind. My grandfather came through Ellis Island in 1916. He got his first job as a pinsetter in a bowling alley in Coney.
He then pushed a peanut cart for a while until he raised enough money to partner with another Greek to open up a confectionary.
But he sold peanuts right there on the boardwalk.

Glad I had a chance to hang in C.I. growing up.
But this just reiterates the fact that the Big Apple is rotting at its core.
Giulianni began the process of killing the culture of NYC,and it has reached a landmark point with this decision..
Glad I got the chance to grow up in the city, but just as glad that I left.
Ride on!
