The companies that recruit them, transport them, and/or hire them are guilty of crimes as well. It is not easy to immigrate into this country and despite common beleif it never was. People were sent back from Ellis island because of a cough, a limp, or even a perceived illness or deformity. We have never had "open doors"... Why imprison illegal aliens from mexico? We should just deport them to the south of their own country where they have the same problem.

JohnA, I believe they were in large numbers recruited and brought into Mississippi by American companies as very cheap labor to rebuild houses and other buildings that had been destroyed by Katrina, and treated worse than slaves.

Good, send them out. They are here illegally, hence the term illegal alien. With unemployment numbers the worst in years, and particularly bad in Mississippi, Americans here legally clearly need the jobs these workers fill. When every single American has a job that will feed their families, then I will feel sorry for these people.

My mom lived in fear until she got her Green-card, I was about ten when she got that taken care of finally. She is white and Canadian, so in the 60's when she snuck into this country, it was easier for her to blend in. But she still lived in fear. She is one of the hardest working people I know, and built her business from nothing. She loves this country for the opportunity it provided for her.
She had a right to escape her abusive situation and build a life for herself and for me, any so does everyone else. It was not easy for her in any way, believe me. I can only imagine what these people are going through, and face on a daily basis, my heart is with them. Immigrants deserve our respect, our country was built on their backs, we must never forget. - 3 years ago
