Rep. McDermott Calls for Impeachment

BREAKING:Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., delivered these remarks on the House floor Tuesday:

Mr. Speaker:
For the last two years I have struggled with the issue of whether the House should consider impeachment of a sitting President.

Next to declaring war, impeachment is the gravest matter the House of Representatives must consider.
I fully understand the gut-wrenching consequences such a national debate could precipitate. Yet, there is one fact we cannot overlook or escape.

American cannot regain its moral leadership in the world if America cannot hold its leaders accountable for their actions at home.

The allegations that would warrant impeachment keep growing.
They have been illuminated in many recent books including The Way of the World by Ron Suskind, the book by Vincent Bugliosi, and the new book by Bob Woodward, The War Within.

Over five years ago, I tried to place an asterisk in the Congressional Record next to the statements about Iraq the President made to Congress. I was attacked for saying the President would mislead us into the war, but the American people ultimately learned the truth.

There seems to be no end to the allegations and we have a responsibility to investigate their authenticity. That's why I am signing onto a resolution to consider impeachment of the President.

Without accountability, a Democracy will fail.
Thank you.

    • Now, who is next to come forward and be seen and heard? I wonder if the mainstream media is picking up on this? and if not why?

    • Thank you Rep. McDermott. As a constituent I have to thank you for making my voice heard in D.C. For the first time in my life I actually feel like my representative supports my interests. I will thank you with a vote in November!

    • When is this congress going to get the guts and balls and brains to follow the few good leaders we have and inpeach this S.O.B. The American people and its constitution need to be treated with the respect they deserve. This congress owes America justice.

    • A day after Ted Kennedy addressed the Democratic convention in Denver, the Kennedys gathered at the historic Brown Palace Hotel in Denver to remember another Kennedy, Ted’s brother, Robert F. Kennedy. He was assassinated forty years ago, the night he won the Los Angeles Democratic primary. After the event, I sat down with Robert F. Kennedy’s son, environmental attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. He spoke about torture, impeachment and the most poignant memories of his father.

    • Thank you Rep McDermott. The Democrats will loose the election if they don't expose the crooks that the Republicans are. It's a mistake that Obama wants to unite with these crooks. The Dems should be getting them out of office. If the Republicans are left on a pedestal, the Christian right will take over the election and win. This link suggests that there is already a plan for a Republican WIN in 6 states, possibly with the help of the Christian right and some fraud.

This is the way forward! Accountability NOW! Dont wait till after November. Today is the day! Make them say their disgressions out loud! Under Oath!

Congress should get all the people who have written negative books about George W. to testify, under oath. Let George W. answer their charges, under oath.

No accountability, no shame. What has been done to this country is shameful. Someone should be held accountable. Many should feel shame!
