This is just disgusting. I don't even know what to say about this and the Canadian government should be ashamed.

Horses being slaughter in Canada and Mexico. One candidate for VP approved bill to allow killing of wolves from the air, prefers oil drilling to polar bears, domestic cats being used for fur, vivisection on animals for cosmetics, it doesn't end, stop one cruel act another picks up momentum. Once we learn to respect and stop abusing Mother earth, then we may have respect for all creatures that inhabit her.

To WisconsinNorm -
Please do not make excuses for having a lack of empathy (not having a companion animal as a child).
Compassion, sympathy, empathy... are ethical/moral traits developed (yes, usually as a child) when you have a sense of personal FEELINGS and you realize that others (people &/or other animals) can experience the same.
You are correct to say that you are off track if you did not bother to take the time to watch any of the videos.
If you are looking to grow as a human being, watch the videos & imagine it was happening to yourself...
P.S. maybe you should start with a houseplant

What can I do? I am so sick to death of cruelty and wanton violence - it's becoming epidemic - we have to reclaim humanism and stewardship, we must not go here!

A quick poll: Are more children being raised today in the absence of either a dog or cat? I hardly had a friend without either when I was growing up--I have never been without a "pet companion" ever.
If you don't develop any empathy for animals as a kid, it can't help but carry through into adulthood...
I just emailed my "favorite high school teacher" to conduct this poll with her students
Being screwed up starts young
Sorry, I didn't watch the video, so I might be wandering from the "real issue" a little.

I think if you want to find what is screwing up children....follow them home...kind compassionate people pass their feelings to their children....so do hateful destructive ones....sometimes though... great children come from destructive parents...the whole wanting to be completely opposite thing....but that is the hard way to get there....Love....is always the answer.....Love of all things....Golden Ruler.....Johnnie Hargrave....

I didn't have pets growing up....was raised a christian and through Christianity learned that humans were the most important species on the planet.
I grew up, started to have my OWN ideas about life and found myself drawn to the teachings of the Buddha. I am now a vegetarian (i still eat fish but am trying to stop that too), who won't even kill a gnat flying around my head. I think what matters is if you respect life, and have empathy. Nothing chooses to be born into the existence it must comprehend. You must be capable of, or willing to place yourself in the position of another living being.
No living thing is more important than another, we are all a part of the same existence. Torture is torture. - 3 years ago

I'm a Canadian, and I remember when the CBC covered this story a few months back ... there is an official government investigation looking into the unethical treatment of animals at Natural Valley Farms as well as a bill about to go through Parliament to end all horse slaughter in Canada for good.
Keep up the petitions! The Canadian government does actually listen to people (crazy concept i know!), so your voice counts!

Hahaha...we're south of the border. Funny sounding when it's used that way.
Hell no to having to kill a Horse. I couldn't do it. I think it's disgusting that people have to find a way around doing something that's illegal...stuff like this.
But what exactly are they to do with the animals?
I suppose as long as it's done humanely what's the issue? And since it's not (according to this for the most part) why isn't it? Difficult? Then they are in the wrong business.

H.R. 6598, the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act:
On Wednesday , Sept. 10, the Congressional House Judiciary Committee will vote on H.R. 6598, the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act. This federal bill will stop the slaughter of American horses, a cruel practice that continues in Mexico and Canada. Wednesday’s vote on H.R. 6598 is crucial and means the difference between life and a brutal death for countless horses. The committee desperately needs to hear from you, as many of its members are on the fence and have never considered this issue before. Your comments are critical.
