Film poster blunder upsets London commuters

The timing could not have been worse.....

London is currently gripped by the inquest into the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell tube station on 22/07/05. I cycle past the memorial every monring and it was a truly horrific shooting by the Police.

The poster for the film Righteous Kill contains the tag line:

"There's nothing wrong with a little shooting as long as the right people get shot".

Should this poster be pulled immediately? Are the tube management guilty of insensitivity and chasing a fast buck?

    • Hmm, while I sympathise with the man's relatives and friends, I don't think the poster should be pulled, partly because I feel enough time has elapsed now that the place should not be overly sensitive, and also because the context of the (*fictional*) film is completely different to what occurred at Stockwell station. The two are not related.

    • Well I think the poster should be pulled down any way. Cause I think the film sucks and has 50 cent in it.

To be honest i didn't read the tag line before but that just give s more reason for it to be pulled down

      Thank you and Peace Out

    • Wow. You just can't make this stuff up... the movie title AND the tag line are just so relevant. Talk about bad taste! Wow again!

    • This was more imprudent than anything else. J.C de Menezes was not an innocent abroad incidentally, there are things that have not emerged concerning his life style and acquaintances. Although it is not acceptable to murder somebody and imply guilt by association. Proverbs informs " a man is made known by his friends". In raising such disgust we are offering free advertising.

    • A lot of hot air about nothing!

"The timing could not have been worse..... " - could it not? According to who?

"London is currently gripped by the inquest into the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes" - We are all gripped by it are we - funny I've heard no one mention anything about it. Please save the sensationalistic histerical language for something like 'The Sun' online. It's a friggin poster for a film that is being plastered with your and perhaps a few others hyper sensitive inperpretations of it and then projecting that histeria London wide. Get a grip man.

    • This is one of those moments when a Marketers heart sinks. I'm sure this wasn't planned. The agency should remove the poster immediately, issue and appology and make a donation to the appropriate charity.

Mistakes happen, just depends how they are delt with.

    • I think was just an unfortunate coincidence. No marketer would stoop this low.

I'm sure nobody read it and thought..."oh, that's clever bespoke marketing"

    • I don't think this was done on purpose but it should be removed or the tag line changed. Like Mr_Costello said maybe guidelines should be introduced for advertisers.

    • Shouldn't guidelines be introduced for advertisers? Perhaps giving them a brief 'historic' overview of the areas they hang their bills in?

Here's a story on the long-awaited opening of the Jean Charles de Menezes inquest - the controversial and fatal shooting of the Brazilian electrician who was wrongly identified by armed police as a suicide bomber.
