To be so ignorant is amazing to me. The same people that helped us lose our jobs are suppose to be given more money in hopes they won't mess up again. If that makes sense lets just open up Enron again. Didn't Martha go to jail for bailing out. Someone should put them in jail for trying to help them bail out.

technically winning a debate through obfuscation is not leadership and imho part of what is going wrong in politics today.
everyone in any political contest tries to "re-frame" a question to lead the viewers back to the kool-aid. that works well for those too busy or unable to research candidate positions, but i don't think it serves our country very well.
i agree that couric could have followed up with policy questions, but i'm not sure if that was the goal of her interview. as i watch more, i think americans where supposed to get a sense of her persona, not so much her policy stance.
i'll be watching pretty closely to the debate to see what's behind that pretty face. if she rattles off half a dozen policy directives (talking points) in response to a similar question tonight and sells them well, it'll go a long way to defining the republican operatives ability to coach her up and her capacity to deliver the heat to the dems.
if she evades and obfuscates, biden should be able to pounce... but i wouldn't count on that. the people behind the curtain are way too smart.

It amazes me that none of you get this. People do this all the time. When you completely disagree with the premise of somebody's question you can do one of two things. You can come right out and point out the flaws in the question . . . or . . . you can substitute your premise for the flawed premise and try to answer the best you can.
Again . . . people do this all the time. Had Katie been smarter, she would have picked up on the fact that Palin was substituting with her own assumptions and would have asked appropriate follow up questions.
People who want to see this through a partisan lens won't get this and won't even try to get this, but my theory is much better than yours. This "Palin is stupid" nonsense is truly bothersome. I bet if any of you met her personally and tried to debate her on issues that she would clean your friggin' clock.

Jack's response made me believe that maybe our country would be OK. He is 100 percent correct.
She was a beauty pagent contestant and that response reminded me of Miss Teen South Carolina.
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some [this is the point where her eyes go wide and she seems to realize the trouble she's in ] ... people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for our children."

Jack has an awesome remark at the end, and he's right. They should have a clue about what happens to others in this nation. Not just have a seizure of answers that you were expected to remember as if it's your final exam. As sorry as Palin is, she exposes the crap ass political agenda behind these politicians who just read cliff notes on real issues that seem not to affect them because of their level of wealth.

The first few times I watched it I did laugh my ass off. She's just all over the place.
But I agree with Wolfy there, she was trying to encompass all of the things that the 700bil bailout would do, theoretically. . . Except if we do bail those f***ks out, we gotta make sure they won't run their companies into the ground again.

Sadness comes over me when I see the obvious lack of policy knowledge Sarah Palin displays; I was more prepared to answer these questions! What's worse is that we still live in a country where plenty of people would rather have an incompetent administration lead us back into the stone ages, than an Obama ticket which, at least "sounds" intelligent. We can pretend all we want that race is not a factor in this country, but who are we kidding. If Obama were white, ALL Republicans would be crossing party lines, and the polls would show a landslide in Obama's favor. This just proves true the premise that Blacks have to work twice as hard to prove themselves worthy and capable. There have been, and will be millions of "Obamas" in this country who, no matter how pathetic their competition, will not be considered as "qualified."

@realrooks- part of the reason for Obama's struggle has to do with him not being 'experienced' and I really hate to pull the race card but I also think that if he were not brown he would be up by atleast 1 extra percentage point.
In my opinion I think his sheer intelligence shines brightly enough for most people to see that he can do this job just as well as the next guy (or gal). But yea there are certainly people out there who are not willing to accept a president that is anything other than Caucasian. But I don't think we should dwell on it too much.Let's just do the best we can and people will come around. The fact that Obama has even made it this far says ALOT about the way people feel about minorities. I see it as a clear sign of progress.

I agree that she is going to be the next president of the USA but the good news is that it will be short -- just long enough to trigger WWIII with Russia, China and most of the rest of the world who now hate us. People that stupid and that "right" in their views are flat dangeous. I see her as Osama Bin Laden in drag. Bush and the neocons have brought the USA to destruction -- she can finish the job for us and everybody else (including Polar bears and wolves that she loves to kill)

Truly stunning. Where is the rationale behind her being R's choice for VP?
This in-your-face insult is recognizing that she could get some heat off McCain and produce vast amounts of ink in the first weeks, but now reality is sinking-in.
Arrogance of the desperate -- and any that defend the choice. We should take a page from their strategy? THIS Republican administration reeks, having read waaay too much of Machiavelli's The Prince and Josef Goebbels. What of another?Fear should never be the reflex tactic of any government, and Fear won in 2004; VOTE NOW to avoid a repeat performance.

John Mccain chose the perfect example of years of Bush/Rove/Swiftboat fear-mongering tactics that have warped the minds of Americans across the country in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. The real concern about when she speaks is not just the absurdity of her answers but the perpetual regurgitation of a fear-mongering and polarizing mindset behind her words when she drives her points home. It is this specifically that needs to change in American politics today.

It does scare the hell out of me that Sarah Palin could become president. It also scares me that she could become VP.
I do not say this because she is female. Dr. Rice would have been a refershing choice and would have posed a serious threat to the democrats. Dr. C. Rice is a Black female who is very intelligent, with a great deal of foreign experience and has worked in the Bush administration.
What a shame that McCain picked a rather narrow minded beauty queen who does not seem to know what is going on. - 3 years ago
