According to this article, U.S. Army Gen McKiernan states "there are countless other differences between Iraq and Afghanistan.' This position counters John McCain's insistence that the same strategies used in Iraq would definitely work in Afghanistan. In addition, U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus stated in the article that “You have to talk to enemies.” He added that it was "necessary to have a particular goal for discussion and to perform advance work to understand the motivations of his interlocutors." Furthermore, he "emphasized throughout his lecture that reaching out to insurgent groups — some “with our blood on their hands,” he said — was necessary to the ultimate goal of turning them against irreconcilable enemies like Al Qaeda in Iraq."

Both McKiernan and Petraeus positions on how to move forward in Afghanistan deeply contrast with McCain's recent positions. However, Barack Obama has consistently used these positions as his fundamental doctrine toward moving forward in Afghanistan.

    • Let us now ponder the next McCainanite talking points after two generals publicly have demolished Captain Titanic's attempt to see the future from his own perspective.

"General McKiernan and General Petraeus ah... lack experience of some sort. For example neither has been a small town mayor, a governor, or brought up on charges for abuse."

"General McKiernan and General Petraeus ah... are America Seconders. Actively passive about energy. They don't count."

"General McKiernan and General Petraeus ah... don't understand that you communicate with people by not talking to them..That's been our secret message throughout the campaign: we're not talking! They just lost their crib-notes or mis-thought their responses."

"General Palin of the Saudi-Alaskan National Guard and I totally disagree. I mean seriously who are these guys? Sarah can't even get their names straight!"

More likely it will be something along the lines of

"We don't intend to answer that question - there being far too many smears left unsmeared and time is running out!"

    • I believe that the Obama campaign needs to emphasize the following talking points.

      1) McCains voting record on veteran's bills with specific counters to his wife's current ungodly speal.

      2) McCains seemingly being a day late and a dollar short on prevailing foreign policy with specific reference to "talking to your enimies".

      3) The public sentiment towards the Iraq war as a whole. Do not let McCain talk about the surge without countering with polls about how against the war we are as a nation. This should include Bush's ratings on the war. We need to hear more about this.

      4) McCain's loose lips sink ships - Obama needs to bring this up first before McCain. Obama murdered McCain in the last debate on this issue.
