Voter purges in 6 states may violate law

The New York Times based its findings on reviews of state records and Social Security data.
The Times said voters appear to have been purged by mistake and not because of any intentional violations by election officials or coordinated efforts by any party.
States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 by removing the names of voters who should no longer be listed. But for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, a review of the records shows.
The newspaper said it identified apparent problems in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Nevada and North Carolina. It says some states are improperly using Social Security data to verify new voters' registration applications, and others may have broken rules that govern removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election.
Democrats have been more aggressive at registering new voters this year, according to state election officials, so any closer screening of new applications may affect their party's supporters disproportionately, the Times said.
The result is that on Election Day, voters who have been removed from the rolls could show up and be challenged by political party officials or election workers.

Oh, oh, here we go again - 2004 all over again. The best way to combat this is to ensure that everyone who's registered get out to vote on mass.
Back in September, I read something about this on a blog that deal with PC software on elections computers that was malfunctioning - not counting all votes and various other irregularities in Colorado and Florida.

A few months back I e mailed an acquaintance knowing she had been a poll worker and I was interested in becoming involved. Here is the answer that was given to me. I did not correct the grammar, it is as it was sent to me. This is a good and decent person who wanted to be of service. Here is the e mail:
******************************
poll worker pays $105 if you attend the training. (some people don't. they make $85, plus the training is USEFUL.)
it is deceptively simple work--i say deceptive, because if you get an inept or crazy lady (or both like I did!) as the poll manager, at the end of the day, they may have you going crazy during closing up time. (this lady didn't keep tabs on the number of ballots matching the number of people voting. not my job, but it became MY headache.) it is a LONG day, but there are two one hour breaks, IF YOU TAKE THEM. I enjoyed it overall and plan to do it again, but will NOT get co-opted by an inept supervisor this time!
mostly you will be way smarter than the other workers. one BIG thing to watch out for: NO POLITICAL TALK ALLOWED. including the radio in the background. you can request the polling place near your home. it's actually kind of fun, being of service and part of the election, and all that.
*********************************************
So this is from someone who did it and I thought it would be appropriate for this story, which, is wonderfully done. Thank you. Private Ibber. - 3 years ago

Man! You people warm my heart! and here I have been feeling like a tin hatter and afraid to shout my fears too loud about loosing another election to Republican election fraud!
Thank you so much for being on it all you people! OMG I am not ALONE!!!!!
Seriously, I write, I talk, I carry signs, stick bumper stickers, I campaign, I phone bank, I have volunteered to be a poll judge...I am doing what I can and way deep inside, I feel good! I have always had really good intuition, and when GW stole the election the first time, I immediately knew we would be going to war. This time, I think we are going to get the thieving Republicans out of office and we will be ok as a nation in the world.
BUT--it will take all of the pressure the non-thieving, non-murdering people can bring to bear to make it happen. First we have to win this election and leave Palin and McCain in the dust, THEN, we have to push Obama and Biden to more progressive policies, we need a groundswell of demand for a Green New Deal, no holds barred.
Then we need to purge the national and state offices of all the corrupt bastards who are stealing our future. Make those elitist thieves pay back the money they stole from us if they have to sell their 7 houses to do it. Evict their asses and build a nation for the benefit of the people.
AND...if the election is stolen, we must resist the coming police state. Stop shopping and bring their corporate masters to their knees.
And thanks for Free For All! I hadn't seen it and will share.
Peace and prosperity to you all.

How can we create an independent 3rd party system to verify votes with physical receipts using an online accounting system to tally the results.
With all do respect, I don't trust those running our country to be Americans anymore or else they wouldn't have voted for the bailout of the rich against the wishes of the people they were sworn to protect.
Throw all the other nonsense on there and I don't trust them to tell me what time of day it is, so how am I supposed to trust the elections to be legit, much less that the 2-party system is legit in the first place?
Dear friends,
Our country is no longer free. This is the same nonsense that started the Revolution that created America in the first place. Those people were heros, the people they defeated were lost to history. Our government no longer represents us, so why should we tolerate it one second longer?

Curious as to who is volunteering to work at your local polling station?
Curious to know who volunteered to count your vote?
Take a look at these insane-psycho-nutjobs and feel the shiver of dread as you realize, "Oh shit. These are the same people who will be tossing my vote in the garbage in some insane belief that they are saving America from a Muslim terrorist!"
My cynical prediction? McCain/Obama 51/49.
3 months later (after mcCain and Palin are sworn in) the Press starts investigating voting "irregularities" and start uncovering more caging lists and more ballots dumped in land fills.

Greg Palast. Look him up. He's a journalist who's been the proverbial voice in the wilderness for years. Voter fraud? Disproportionately affecting democratic voters? Duh! Happens every election cycle. Another trick is number of machines they allocate to precincts. More where the money is and less where the money isn't, even if there are more people where the money isn't. The result is longer lines. Longer lines mean the likelyhood that people who want to vote will not be able to. People got responsiblities, they can't wait, the don't get to vote.
Then of course there are the types of machines. Again the faulty machines are allocated to the areas most likely to vote Democrat.
Keep your peepers peeping, and go check out Greg Palast.

Does anyone know how these polling places are staffed?
How do they pick the people who determine if you're "on the list" or not? Could I volunteer and then just tell all the Republicans that, oops, you're not on the list, sorry, here's a provisional ballot that actually doesn't get counted? Seriously, can I just volunteer and do that? Does any jackass off the street who volunteers get the position? Are there any checks and balances in the entire system or is the whole thing pretty much run by retired men and women with no supervision?
Who actually gets to be one of the people "counting" the votes? Again, is this all volunteer? Are they paid positions? How do you actually get one of those plumb "vote counting" positions?
Who supervises the vote counters?
Is there actually a specific person that watches to see if someone tosses some in the garbage?
Is the same person supervising the count the exact same person hand-picking the "volunteers" who do the counting?
This whole process seems really half-assed and amateur and no one really has any idea how it works, who gets what job duties and who is really in charge of each individualized local mess.

I think we should organize local places where people can go after they vote, or meet up after polling places close. Numbers talk! If millions of people are stationed thoughout America, demanding a clean election, they would listen!
Republicans should not be misled. America is too important for Party over Country. Sarah Palin and John McCain are dangerous for our future! They dont have a plan, they have an attack, using you! They wont protect you anymore than George W. has, they will just use you. The ends will justify their means, in their minds. Dont be sheep! Dont go off the cliff!

Don't be too fast to point fingers. I saw on CNN yesterday that this investigation began with the RNC looking into the surge in voter registration. Using fake SS#'s, fake addresses, fake names and even names of dead people.

THIS IS NOTHING NEW. THIS IS 2004 ALL OVER AGAIN.
They stole the vote last time, by ripping up voter registration forms that specified "democrat."
Read the article, but remember that the 2004 disenfranchisement did NOT only happen in Nevada, thousands of democrats across the country who registered anew, or changed their addresses, NEVER RECEIVED NEW VOTER REGISTRATION CARDS OR POLLING PLACE INSTRUCTIONS.
And never forget that in 2004, to help out his Bro, Jeb Bush cut funding to certain areas of Florida, so that the poor and elderly could not be bussed to polling places to vote.
DEMOCRATS WERE PREVENTED FROM REGISTERING LAST TIME, AND NOW THEY ARE REMOVING DEMOCRATS' ABILITY TO VOTE THROUGH A TECHNICAL LOOPHOLE.
The voter disenfranchisement since Baby Bush took office is truly wide-spread and sickening. Click here to remember where we were exactly four years ago...

They can steal the election WITHOUT PEOPLE TAKING TO THE STREETS! Right now on CNN, the are spinning race -- CODE: If McCain wins, its because America is racist. SO, IF MCCAIN WINS, IT WONT BE BECAUSE THE RACE WAS STOLLEN, ITS BECAUSE BARACK IS BLACK! Perfect cover for ELECTION THEFT!
They cant steal a landslide!
To all the Republicans who believed the spin in 2004, hows that working for ya? Was your 401Ks protected? Or are you actually victims of George W. and his cronies, just like the rest of us? WAKE UP, they arent protecting you either, your the same victim as the rest of us!

Well, I'm sayin' it again - if the exit polling results deviate from the actual vote counts, especially in the "swing states" - we need to be in the streets. Not violently, but overwhelmingly, in numbers, to send the message that we are not buying it! And, prior to the actual election, offer your support to your local campaign office, in any way required. I do think a landslide is possible, but I also believe that short of that, McScary and his merry band of men will steal it, if they can. And, I too want to know what's being done right now about these "mistakes". There should be monitors in every polling place in every state where these suspected problems may occur, documenting and challenging anything that seems "odd".

This is a tactic that has allowed President Dumb Nuts to have an 8 year stay in government housing, aka the Projects for White Men.....
You are kidding yourself if you think we live in a democratic nation. Democracy is for sale. When it takes $100 Million to RUN for President of the US, then this is not a democratic nation. When votes are not counted or are stolen by Debolt, then we do not live in a democratic nation. Who pays $100M for a job that pays less than $300k a year?
I am not shocked by this political gesturing as 'My Friend' Papa POW would categorize it. Bottom line is the US Government is for sale...just in. The US has been sold to China!
Seriously I can't understand for the life of me how we are able to 'think' this system we call democratic should be replicated in other nations. Poor Iraqis. To bad you were born in a country with such vast natural resources...... Move to Africa, the US never 'liberate' those people.

They may not be able to steal a landslide? The only way we are going to avoid "Grand Theft Votes" is if Americans with voices (those who get on mainstream media) take the opportunity to expose the wrongs which are going on. If you think that the Courts will adjudicate this issue to my satisfaction, think twice. Eight years ago, the United States Supreme Court (read Sandra Day, a lifelong Republican),cast the tie-breaking 5-4 vote) that ruled George into office against the votes and will of the People. We have lived with the rollback of all kinds of rights and liberties since then. The latest was the decision that makes unequal pay for women Federal law.
Remember: the next President gets to nominate the Supreme Court Justice whose decisions will affect all aspects of our lives. This includes everything from civill liberties and the freedoms enumerated in the First Amendment. Got a problem pregnacy? The Right to Privacy could be taken away if the Court swings one more vote toward the right. Winni

Considering that the McCain-Palin ticket would stop at nothing to do what they can in the next few weeks to narrow the margin between Obama-Biden and themselves, I think it's a big mistake for us to be complacent about this and assume these votes won't make a difference at this point. It very well could make a difference, and I think we need to make as much noise as we can to make sure these states, many swing states, allow these people to show up at the polls and vote!
Read the stats in this article. You'll notice it says that a larger share of the voters are Democrats and more than half of them active voters!

I've seen recent evidence that judges on state and national levels who used to support this administration (many, hand-picked by it) are changing their tune and, thankfully, following the rules of Constitutional Law instead of GWB's.
Perhaps, I'm feeling optimistic but, I've good reason to believe that the election won't be "stolen", this time out.

Isn't it too late now to stop the Republicans?
They've basically already tossed millions of voters into the garbage......any way to gaurantee those voters will be restored by election day?
No.
They've already told students in swing states that if they vote they will lose their health insurance.
Anyway to "undo" that damage before election day?
Probably not.
They (the Republicans) have already sent out mass mailings telling people that if they show up to vote and have an outstanding parking ticket and/or fail to provide proof of citizenship on demand they will be instantly jailed. INSTANTLY JAILED! (God love the Republicans!)
Any gaurantee THAT damage will be undone by election day?
Again, probably not.
They Republicans will most likely win because of the simplicity of their strategy --- they will take a baseball bat and smash the knees of the voters and then, oh, about 5 months after the election the Dems will shout, "Hey! That may not be entirely ethical!"
Of course we'll be shouting that AFTER all the damage has been doen and McCain and Palin are being sworn in.
We waited way, way, waaaay to long to address these illegal voter supression tactics and I think its probably too late to effectively do anything about it.
In order to speed up voting and avoid long lines we might just as well fill out a ballot at home and toss it in the garbage ourselves....save some time by cutting out the Republican Middle Men.
I know, I know. I'm cynical.

This is exactly why people who simply say "YOU MUST VOTE" infuriate me. They haven't a clue.
HACKING DEMOCRACRY is also a phenomenal documentary on voter fraud.

History repeats itself... honestly this is making me sick with how much C&@P our government does and gets away with. so lets see if the American people will stand for another presidential election like the previous 2.

....I tried to come up with a witty anecdote to describe something as crooked as the voting system in America....pretzel...no...fishing line in the back of an old pickup after going down a dirt road for 20 miles....no....it seems like it is in a league of its own.....if this next election is blatantly corrupted....I do hope that the American people Will rise up and stop this mess...once and for all....America is on the edge of a grand precipice...if it goes over the edge it Will take with it every great person that gave their life to making this country great....with it......Golden Ruler....Will......

Purging the voter rolls is GOP-speak for denying folk og their right to vote. The GOP will always be over-zealous. If they thought they could get it through state legislatures, the GOP would probably push for minimum income requirements. That would probably remove the last barrier to the GOP goal of limiting the right to vote to those demographics that are most like to vote GOP.
If the GOP should ever succeed in this goal, there is then no longer any point in having elections. Just let a GOP committee of mucky mucks pick whomever promises them the biggest tax cuts and the biggest MIC contracts.
Historically, the courts have been entirely too sympathetic to the GOP with some notable exceptions.
For example, the high court ruled that a state that exercised general criminal, taxing, and other jurisdiction over persons on certain federal enclaves within the State, the Court held, could not treat these persons as nonresidents for voting purposes.
An issue that surfaced just recently dates back to 1771. It involves whether persons in the military can vote in their home district if they are away, say, bogged down in Iraq. What a way to win elections --start a war of aggression (as Bush did) and send all the poor folk (who might be tempted to vote Demo) off to war where they cannot vote.
Often the reasons for 'disqualifying' a potential voter is a political issue. Arbitrary income requirements would be a good example. Overall --the GOP strategy is to prevent potential Democrats from voting. How much easier their goal, if they could just limit the right to vote to their elite country clubbers!!!!!

Check this film out, it's really well produced and best of all it's totally free. It goes a long way to demonstrating the large body of evidence that voter fraud has gone on in the past, and that voter fraud will probably go on in the future.

Humm.....seems as If I have heard this before? Not the old if you can't beat 'em cheat'em routine!
Americans have not the time or patience for politics a la Bush again, what's next the hanging chad problems?
We will not stand for anything other than a legitimate and fair election. Two stolen elections are quite enough.
This time if there is any hint of malfeasance we will demand a recount and accountability.
And we wonder why our country is near financial ruin.
