A £1,000 bounty has been offered to bring a serial cat killer to justice, after nine cats were found poisoned with antifreeze in Weston-super-Mare, six of them in the same street. Oddly, there was an identical poisoning outbreak between April and August in nearby Bridgwater, which took the lives of 19 moggies.

Peta believes that the poisonings have been deliberate and are offering £1,000 in exchange for information leading to the prosecution of the culprit or culprits. Peta's Suzanne Barnard claimed that because animals were often the perfect "practice" victims for violent people.

The RSPCA, however, is splitting its investigation between searching for a malicious psychopath and an innocent source of the chemical, such as a breaker's yard.

Anyone with information about the killings is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

What sick person would go around killing cats with antifreeze? But could so many deaths in two areas really be coincidence?
