Zelaya says that "instead of pursuing drug traffickers, societies should invest resources in educating drug addicts and curbing their demand." He proposes establishing mechanisms for legalizing drug use.
Zelaya spoke Monday at a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean anti-drug officials. He did not say whether he would introduce legislation to legalize drugs in Honduras.
Rodolfo Zelaya, head of the Honduran congressional commission of drug trafficking, rejected the president's comments. He told meeting participants he was "confused and stunned by what the Honduran leader said."

The War on Drugs is definetly a failure. As a honduran myself, I think is time to rethink what must be done about drugs. I think legalizing it must be a long and careful procedure.

As a Honduran myself, I find myself pretty neutral in this ideal: Legalizing drugs will definitely help lower the violence created by druglord, cartels and consumer society.
Yet. Theres a lot of opposition against the president in here.
Honduras is a beautiful place, btw. Come on over if your tired of the same bullshit!

The war on drugs hasn't worked anywhere. If anything it has made the drug supply business more lucrative for all concerned and made criminals of those addicted.
Decriminalize drug use and help people to curb their addiction to hard drugs via clinics.

Look at all these junkie would-be up in here. You are the reason the war on drugs is failing. With the legalization of drugs you'd see more doped up idiots wondering the streets than you do now. Where the **** is your head at people?

Doped up idiots...idiot drunks. I don't really see a difference.
Hey, let's make booze illegal...again. No more beer for YOU.
Oh, wait a second. Prohibition...they tried that before and ah...news flash....didn't work. It just created a lot of violent crime....
Hmm, drug prohibition doesn't create any violent crime, does it?
Legalize it. Tax it. Let the pot smokers out of jail...they'll have to get a job so they can pay for cable TV (instead of us) so they don't miss Judge Judy.

Don't cry to me with your doped up opinions. If you smoke weed, you DO have a problem.
JaimeGray, All recreational drugs should be illegal. Even booze. Prohibition failed. Let us try it again. I'm sure we can get it right this time. Outlaw smoking while we're at it. Watch all the tobacco fiends go crazy.
regularrf, I guess you haven't met my doped up friends who couldn't get off the weed even if they tried.

actually Lsh.. I support decriminalization of marijuana, smoke weed, have a family, and work with a fortune 500 company.
There's too many medicinal/textile/economic values to it to deny. Furthermore, there's no scientific evidence backing the fact that it is addictive or harmful. I've never met anyone whose had a hard time quitting. Unlike other drugs (even pharmaceutical), if you decide to stop you can just stop cold turkey without any adverse side-effects.
As an active participant in the "rave" scene, I've seen a lot of kids end up in the hospital, raped, etc. (I'm not targeting the scene, but merely referencing my experience)
Thus, I do not support the legalization of all drugs. Nor do I think legalization of weed is right. You should have to pay the price of irresponsible use of it as you should with alcohol. Just because one person is for it doesn't mean everyone has to be... So keep it hidden so you do not offend others.
On the legal end, Oxycontin, Vicodin, Xanax, Valium, Percosets, etc. are all very addictive yet they are prescribed regularly by doctors to people who do not need them.
If there's doubt, Cannabis should be prescribed for this very reason. Potheads are functional members of society, yet someone on Oxycontin's typically just feeds the addiction their doctor creates.

Wow, this is very interesting, how the world is very different, like in some places in Europe their is no drinking age. And now in here, pot is legal.

If only the U.S would realize that legalizing drugs could actually cause more good than harm. Taxpayers' money could go towards something that is beneficial to us, other than to fund the thousands of jail cells in which drug users are imprisoned. The U.S could also tax drugs, just as they do tobacco and help our financial status.

Drugs can't be controlled by the government.
The money raised by selling drugs should go for health INS. The price should be lower or people will still buy their drug of choice on the streets. The people selling pot should grow the weed and sell it to the people that want it. You seem to have your head on straight ,I see nothing but a bright future for you. - 3 years ago
