Falling behind in the polls, Republican candidate John McCain hopes to shake up the presidential race in his final debate with Democrat Barack Obama, who will be looking to close the deal with voters unhappy with the country's direction.

    • It would be very interesting to be a fly on the wall of the McCain advisors office to see what they can come up with for tonights debate. They must realise by now that going negative has not worked in many quarters and McCains mortgage plan has not been met with enthusiasm either. The Palin factor appears to be fading too. Another problem is that if McCain suddenly becomes radically different in tone or behaviour from his previous performances then that will be seen as desperation by some and just confusing to many others.

He might have a secret weapon - some master plan he will reveal that will get rid of the countrys record deficit or end the Iraq and Afghanistan wars by the end of the year but that is unlikely. If McSame is just the same that will just make up more undecideds to vote Obama.

But honestly, if you were 72 and not in sparkling health would you want to take on the problems that the US and the world has right now? Maybe the GOP did not want to win this one after all. So they fielded an old man and a manipulatable parrot to make sure.
