That's not the way I remember it since it leaves out a few of the facts.
First of which was Dan Quayle made the mistake of confusing a character in a sitcom for a role model just because one of the plots in the story was that she became a single mother. He never even mentioned the writers, he criticized the character directly. The funniest part was they wrote the criticism into the story and had the character answer it directly also.
Although the basic premise of the concept that it is better for families to have a father involved in them is a good idea. Dan Quayle made another mistake in even applying it to that sitcom in the first place because in the plot of the story wss that Murphy Brown wasn't a single mother by choice. It was because the father had left her while she was pregnant.
Dan Quayle never even brought up the point about dead beat dads that abandon mothers and only unfairly criticized for being an out-of-wedlock mother when the situation was written that marriage was out of the question since the father split.
So all the derision for making such a big deal about it that Dan Quayle got from it was well deserved. First for mistaking a comedy as blueprint for how to live your life and second for not even paying enough attention to the show to find out it didn't even apply
Sarah Palin has been making a lot of similar mistakes that have deserved it also. The repeated insistence that being able to see Russia from Alaska gives her foreign policy experience, the meltdown of the Katy Couric interview and the whipping crowds into a frenzy with rhetoric worth of McCarthy.

Gov. Palin is getting the "Dan Quayle treatment" by the snarky mainstream media and entertainment world (ridicule, belittlement, snide comments, SNL sketches, Tonight show jokes) which he did NOT deserve. For those of you who were still in Pampers when this happened to VP Quayle, it was a sad and sickening time in our democracy. Dan Quayle pointed out the poor role model that a fictional character on TV, liberal Murphy Brown, was when the series allowed her to be an out-of-wedlock mother. He pointed out, quite correctly, that being a single mother with no father in the life of the child, is not admirable. It's sad to grow up without a Dad in your life (I know this from experience) and a child needs a good male and female role model inside of a sound marriage. So, for speaking out on this issue (which many critics railed against at the time but later admitted that he was correct about) he was ridiculed, mocked, and generally treated the way Gov. Palin is being treated. It was sickening then and it is still sickening. Snickering and mocking is easy. It's junior-high schoolish. Grow up and learn to disagree respectfully!

Unfortunately Sarah Palin is already being herself that is part of the problem.
The worse part of the problem is that she doesn't want Quayle's job which she probably could handle if nothing happens to McCain.
Much worse is that she wants Cheney's job which is way beyond her since very few have what it takes to be a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Well, dumb or not, he is right. Palin has an almost zero approval rating for a reason, and she was picked for a reason...
She is obvioulsy a toe-the-line Republican that appeals to ONLY the most hardline people in the party. Honestly, she was picked because she is the perfect puppet and America sees through her.
I have said it before... the first time EITHER party puts forth a female candidate that acts, talks, feels, and VOTES like a woman, I will vote for her. Palin could not be herself under any circumstances.

" A mind is a terrible thing to waste, or, not to have a mind or..." (Damn ! Wouldn't you know it ? I marry a female lawyer whose smater than I could ever be, and now she's out rollerblading instead of winding up my mainspring like she promised she would!) Help ! I put my size 10 shoe in my size 8 mouth and now it's stuck. Yeah just be yourself Palin, and at the rate you're going after you & grampa loose the election the Feds'll have to chase you across State lines to bust you & grampa for Conspiracy to Incite Riots at your mutual hate rallies. And you'll end up in the La Brea Tar Pits with all those dinosaurs that were around only 6,000 years ago ? I can just hear those Alaskan wolves howling in laughter about that joke too.Because one thing's for sure. Those wolves
will still be around long after they lock McCain/Palin up. - 3 years ago

Actually My husband has sold that bumper sticker all over America. But thanks for your constant advice. He was the originator of both that and Nobama 08. I cant think that stuff up. But he has been at it for years. If you really want to get your little heart pumping check out his web site. nobama08shirts.com. But, be careful Libs often have brain aneurysms after viewing it.

Really?
I can see great minds think alike! I hope you are not editing his final drafts! We see how well your brilliant wordplay has crystallized the McCain message here on current.com! I’m sure Senator McCain is happy to have such open-minded supporters helping his campaign efforts! Maybe he can insert the Obama/Osama tagline into one of his speeches! That’s sure to spur more “KILL HIM” chants! I can feel the love! LOL
Anyway...
I'm going to bid you goodnight and catch some z's because this discussion has become way too comical!
But seriously. All sarcasm aside...
I am an Independent voter. I watch all news networks (EVEN FOX) and try to keep an open mind. I come to current because I like to have discussions and understand other points of view. You should really try to respect people from all walks of life and have a conversation without being disrespectful. If you did that maybe people would ACTUALLY try to understand where you are coming from and WE as American people could finally find some common ground.

And once again I have to point out the grammatical mistakes!

Now when you thanked me for focusing on the BIG picture.... did you mean "pig and lipstick" picture, Bill Ayers picture, or more like "turn the page on economic issues" picture?
I'm just trying to get a firm grasp on exactly HOW BIG the Republican campaign picture is these days.
Thanks!

Jammer, once again you are off the mark. You continuously try to conflate in congruent subjects. What I don't know is if you do it as the typical Republican tactic or you truly by end to their hype. Although in this particular case you could make the argument Bush = Osama as both are mass murdering terrorist in someones eyes.

Jammer, comparing Obama to Osama is hardly the same thing as comparing McCain to Bush. As we've heard OVER AND OVER, McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time and has backed his failing policies. Comparing Barack Obama with America's most hated terrorist figure is a scare tactic used by ignorant republicans with no better point to make.

I absolutely LOVE how you attempted to insult the intelligence of others… but managed grammatical mistakes in the process. LOL
“Apparently if the media trashes a person their done in your guys book. Sad really sad.”
I think you may have meant: they’re done in your book.
Get it?
“they’re” is a substitute for “they are” whereas the use of “their” in a sentence like this is a common misspelling error.
From one avid reader to another…
Just thought I would point that out.
