For independent voters, Barack Obama won all three debates with John McCain.

Senator John McCain needed a game changer in the last presidential debate with Senator Barack Obama. Independent voters say it didn't happen - and once again awarded the debate to Obama. Although McCain came out swinging, Obama's strategy stayed the same: cooly and calmly explain each of his plans. Pepe Escobar argues this was pure theater; in the real world, the financial crisis rages, and none of the candidates really bothered to address in depth the seriousness of it all.

Pepe Escobar, born in Brazil is the roving correspondent for Asia Times and an analyst for The Real News Network. He's been a foreign correspondent since 1985, based in London, Milan, Los Angeles, Paris, Singapore, and Bangkok. Since the late 1990s, he has specialized in covering the arc from the Middle East to Central Asia, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has made frequent visits to Iran and is the author of Globalistan and also Red Zone Blues: A Snapshot of Baghdad During the Surge both published by Nimble Books in 2007.

    • Nobamagirl seriously,

All disrespect aside. I have an inherent curiosity to learn. I am really curious about your point of view. I like to understand people who think on the opposite spectrum of me. I want to understand where you are coming from.

      Honestly,

      Jaye

    • We haven't given up in Michigan, we are going to take Michigan and Ohio. You really aren't all that, but if it makes you feel good, laugh at me all you want. Every once in a while we have to surrender The White House because a New generation of Leftist actually vote. And this might be one of those times. But unlike lefties, which cry that they'll move to France or Canada. Small business owners will shut their doors! Will lay of dependent employee, will move out of country to do business, will down size. This isn't an empty threat. This is already being planned and it will be carried out. Try taxing the inner city government dependents. Not going to work, not at this time, Welfare and Social Security are tax money. See cutting ones nose off to spite ones face really hurts.

      Nobamagirl,

You don't know my background or ANYTHING about me...

      TRUST

I am all that! I'm enough of THAT to get my facts straight before I start posting nonsense. Maybe you should try that sometimes.

You honestly have some sort of anger issues. It’s one thing to present your point of view and have a healthy debate but WHY do you get so angry, so offensive and so disrespectful? I’ve told you once before, and at the risk of belaboring the point I will reiterate:

If you were MORE respectful maybe people would actually listen and be open to what you have to say. I have Conservative and Republican friends and associates and I’m always curious and open to share ideas… However from what I’ve seen of your posts you seem like a close minded person who has had little to no experience with diversity.

I find that interesting since this country is supposed to be one of acceptance and diversity… or does that only apply when your point of view is the only one widely accepted?

Don’t get me wrong. I can see that you are in the minority here on current.com, but that is all the more reason to RESPECTFULLY share your views and attempt to exchange ideas.

      (sigh)

I am not angry at all. I am a loyal Republican doing my duty. I am not the one posting filibusters bragging about my self and calling you ignorant, That is you. I am always open for conversation. and debate. And your insults don't discourage me. There are bigger issues than my feelings at stake here, Jon warned me about the Hate on this site before I joined. I wish you well, but feel maybe you should check your anger at the door and discuss. instead of VENT. I agree to disagree with you. Have a good night. Dawn

    • It won't be over till the first woman VP is sworn in. You ought to know that. I never said the Republicans gave up anything. Your eyes need to be linked up to brain because something has to be messed up. Republicans don't ever give up.

    • I think mcain and palin are trying to win by childish acts by attacking the democrats and in this video mcain seems to just beat around the bush Obama is straight forward and Biden ...well he's just the shit.

    • I think Mccain acted more like a 27 year old than a 72 year old in his last debate. He spent more time trying to attack Obama versus trying to voice his position to the voters. I was soooo sick of hearing about the plumber. Was he there for god's sake? After watching the three debates, I have clearly decided that Mccain and Palin would not be the best candidates for president/vice president.

    • I like this guy- hes good.
      any way here I go...

      Flash-
The Plumbers, Pipe Fitters Union of the United States has endorsed Barack Obama-
Stating that Obama has the guts, the intelligence, and the plan to take the nation forward and away from the conservative theology that has nearly destroyed our beloved nation!

"Joe the plumber" may vote for Mccain- but this ringing endorsement signifies that the real “Joe the Plumbers” with licenses and all will vote for the better suited candidate to move us forward- Senator Obama!

Heres yet another microcosm of McCains political culture...

      Arizona-
near last in the union for health care...
      near dead last in education...
a right to work state-which means, you are underpaid
for your work and your skill while your health care is awful and expensive!

      Sound familar?

In twenty six years of service what does Mccain have to show?

No legislature for the science and or implementation of sustainable energy/solar despite AZ. being number one for the amount of sunshine available!
What’s Mccain biggest feat- he provided the Indian nations/reservations with gambling- whiskey too!

Mccain-he never met a war he didn’t vote for!

      Ugly- darn right its ugly!
      No more Colloquial prop ups!
The nation needs intelligent, wise, unassuming leaders. If eight years haven’t taught us this then we are doomed!

    • A total different view of the debate when the two opponents faces are both on the screen together.

Regarding McCains eye blink rate I think some expert will be able to throw some light on this.

Personally I was always led to believe a person who blinks constantly is telling lies

    • McCain showed clearly he has a real problem with his temper. I don't feel old Pepe really understands that this was only an hour, and only so much can actually be covered in a moderated debate. I feel Obama addressed the issue of the mess were in. McCain on the other hand went against all logic and reason, and against his handlers and spent 30 minutes of it negative politicking.

    • McCain was in Cartagena, Colombia for 36 Hrs that does not warrant knowledge of the situation in that Country (which BTW I know very well) The famous treaty is a massive amount of nothing that will destroy the farmers in Colombia and erase all intellectual property. Colombia right now has trade advantages and its exports enjoy almost tariff free exceptions thanks to the plan Colombia. Its exceptions are so advantageous that impresarios from other countries such as Ecuador and Venezuela, set bases in Colombia so they can too export their products under this agreement.

The main reason of the treaty is to set a strong military presence there and continue with the profitable war on drugs.

    • Oh no you don't! According to Fox News, McCain won all three of the debates by 87% to 11%!

It was funny, I watched three networks after the debate and all three interviewed "uncommitted" voters to see if they committed to a candidate. CBS and MSNBC had voters going for McCain while all the newly committed on Fox went to Obama!

So much for polls and major news network reporting! I'll stick to Jon Stewart any day!
