Barbara Hogan is a South African native who spent years in prison for fighting apartheid. She joined the African National Congress (ANC) party in 1977 and campaigned against apartheid. Five years later she was arrested for membership in the ANC and sentenced to 10 years in prison for “furthering the aims of a banned organisation” and after being interrogated, tortured and held in solitary confinement for one year, she was found guilty of high treason. Hogan was released in 1990 when the ban on the ANC was lifted.
Ms. Hogan is a member of the advisory board of the Amandla AIDS Fund (AAF), which was established by the nonprofit organization Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) in 2003.
“We know that HIV causes Aids,” Ms Hogan told an international AIDS vaccine conference in Cape Town.

Maybe we could gain some ground in this thing by adding more HIV/AIDS classes to the continent. Or maybe pass out free condoms, or something.

I'm amazed it's taken this long for them to accept, or begin to accept, this widely known fact?

It's been said. Now is not the time to play the blame game, that's just more time-wasting.
Fingers crossed Hogan and the rest of the South African government will ring-fence funding to support the search for a vaccine.

Check out this pod about an orphanage in Cape Town that houses children affected and effected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

Really? I thought it would be obvious but I guess not. With her voice, I hope they can try and treat the devastating problem in South Africa.

Great! Maybe in another 30 years they'll realize the benefit of condom use outweighs the idea that it's "sinful".

Anyone`s convictions as strong as Her`s must be applauded !!! Their were many before Her, maybe not for same cause, but for humanity`s sake, and i`am sure there will be many more after Her. Giving up our freedom for a cause that we believe in is a sacrifice that should be truly honored.

AFRICA: IRAQ II, THE SEQUAL, COMING SOON!!!
In February 2007 the White House announced the formation of the US African Command (AFRICOM), a new unified Pentagon command center in Africa, to be established by September 2008. This military penetration of Africa is being presented as a humanitarian guard in the Global War on Terror. The real objective is, however, the procurement and control of Africa’s oil and its global delivery systems... It is in Western and Sub-Saharan Africa that the US military force is most rapidly increasing, as this area is projected to become as important a source of energy as the Middle East within the next decade. In this region, challenge to US domination and exploitation is coming from the people of Africa—most specifically in Nigeria, where seventy percent of Africa’s oil is contained... Oil companies and the Pentagon are attempting to link resistance groups to international terror networks in order to legitimize the use of the US military to “stabilize” these areas and secure the energy flow. No evidence has been found however to link the Niger Delta resistance groups to international terror networks or jihadists. Instead the situation in the Niger Delta is that of ethnic-nationalist movements fighting, by any means necessary, toward the political objective of self-determination. The volatility surrounding oil installations in Nigeria and elsewhere in the continent is, however, used by the US security establishment to justify military “support” in African oil producing states, under the guise of helping Africans defend themselves against those who would hinder their engagement in “Free Trade.”
