He's not exactly your average Joe. Hear from the man that both political candidates want voting for them. Ladies and gentlemen, the man, the myth, the legend, Joe The Plumber.

    • Um...okay. Funny how you want to promote the "witch hunt" meme, while conveniently ignoring the real point that the "actual Joe" (who makes $40,000 a year) would fare much better under the Obama tax plan. And the "aspirational Joe" (who would make $280,000 a year) would only see his taxes raised by one third of one percent (if that).

But don't take my word for it, here's an actual article with an analysis of the numbers.

Notice that there is no mention of dogs or high school transcripts in this post.

    • Keep screamin lefties because Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber have middle America pumped-up and taking a HARD look at everyone*s favorite radical leftist.

Florida and Ohio have swung to McCain and the other swing States are trending tight.

Time to make sure that your window opens and you have at least three stories to the ground.

      lol

      http://www.suffolk.edu/31491.html

In Ohio, 68 percent of respondents said they recognized "Joe the Plumber," but only 6 percent said that Joe’s story will make them more likely to vote McCain; 4 percent were more likely to vote for Obama; and 85 percent were not affected. A similar finding was recorded in Missouri, where 80 percent had heard of the presidential plumber; 8 percent were more likely to vote McCain; 3 percent more likely to vote Obama; and 86 percent not affected by his story.

      And...

With just over two weeks left before the presidential election, voters in the key state of Ohio are giving the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden a 9-point lead (51 percent-42 percent) over the Republican ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin, according to a poll released today by Suffolk University.

What*s the matter. A little too close to home? Don*t like the idea that your taxes might go up?

My friends, I have news for you. There are people all across this country who are ready to vote for Obama and believe that $100,000 is a rich man*s wage.

He*ll be coming for yours next.

Well, If I suddenly start making $280,000 (like Joe claimed) I'll happily pay the extra one third of one percent that will be required of me under the Obama plan. Because I know that the progressive tax policy is what has helped build the economic engine of this country.

Your scare tactics aren't working. What else ya got?

My friends, Joe the Plumber is your average everyday American worker who dreams of owning his own business. He has his eyes set on the Plumbing business that employs him now.

He has the opportunity to ask a presidential candidate to speak to the effects of his tax plan on Joe*s dream.

Obama explains that its OK for Joe to succeed but that the plan is for Obama to take a bigger chunk of what Joe earns and spread it around to all of those behind him.

Like it or not, Americans see this as socialism and they don*t like it one bit.

Joe the Plumber resonates with average Americans just like Palin does.

Ultimately, this costs Obama the election.

Yes...and with the tax cuts Joe is going to get under the Obama tax plan he'll be able to achieve his goal that much quicker. And if he does manage to achieve that dream and makes $280,000 a year, he'll pay the additional one third of one percent in taxes (around one days work) and still be making 7 times more a year than he does right now. I wish him all the luck in the world.

As to your bold predictions my friend. I'm sorry that the facts just don't support you. If Joe and Sarah are resonating like you say they are, then the polls would reflect it. They don't. Keep spinning.

No, he is not. He was just milking it (his encounter with Obama) to the detriment of the voting population that McCain mentioned, mentioned and mentioned at least fifty thousands times afterward the few first mentions. "Joe The Plumber" 15mins of fame are up. Let's talk about the issues.

(Nevermind about the issues let's just elect Obama. McCain has nothing to say and do that can change this election and I am sick and tired of Sarah Palin)

    • I am sick and tired of stories about "Joe the Plumber", he means nothing. He is just another INVISIBLE CLOAK THAT MCCAIN USES DURING THIS CAMPAIGN since his Sarah Palin one is wearing out. So can we stop even mentioning him: he is not a certified plumber, he does not own a business and he supposedly does not pay his taxes.

(Yes, I have deleted my own post about the man since I found out he is a fraud who is ruining the reputation of good plumbers everywhere)

    • Okay, this Joe the plumber gambit of McCain's is feeling like an unvetted Sarah Palin take 2. If you are behind in the polls, and in your last debate before the election just 2 weeks away, would you bring up someone over 15 times and not have checked them out? So, the next morning the news comes out that Joe is not a licensed plumber, owes back taxes, and actually would get a tax break under Obama's plan? This is McCain's example of the Americans he's trying to reach? And to make the whole thing more absurd, "Joe" goes on CBS and makes a racial slur, comparing Obama to a tap dancing Sammy Davis Jr. And people still are feeling okay about voting McCain in as president? I'm sorry, but it's definitely time for a change. Wouldn't it be great to have a president who respects our intelligence?

    • Its sad when i see some of the really poor people in my area here in alabama with mccain signs in there yard . They would never vote for obama you know what their excuse is,, because theye werent raised that way so ignorant and old fashioned. Its sad that alot of americans feel that way just because he is african american. Look pass that people he is just an american running for President. Dont look at being Republican or Democrat this is just another thing in this country that helps keep this country divided. Look past your party roots and just vote for the best man for the job which in my opinion is Obama he can change this country for the better if we get out and vote and give him a chance to do the job. And remember we are all americans stop racially dividing yourselves. Americans

      Thanks

    • I get the whole "15 minutes of fame" deal here, but why is this even still a topic of discussion? Honestly, I'm curious why no one has paraded out the dotty old woman who called Barack Obama an "Arab" at the McCain rally last week. Let's have a closer scrutiny of some of the venomous, screaming yahoos at GOP gatherings that McCain takes such pride in defending. Eventually the Secret Service should probably know their names anyway...

    • The irony is that, based on what Obama said to him, the whole argument that McCain was making during the debate is false!! Joe's taxes aren't going to go up, as a whole. Only the tax on his revenue over $250K will go up. So his taxes will only be raised on a small percentage of his revenue. And if you factor in healthcare and tax credits, Joe will likely keep way more money in is pocket with Obama's plan.

Not quite. If the percentage of his revenue that is being taxed stays the same over a long period of time, that same percentage will be applied to a growing amount of money. As his money grows, his taxed revenue grows as well. Theoretically, the percentage of money lost to taxes is the same no matter how much money he makes, but he's not gaining anything.

But if the percentage taxed on his revenue rises (which it most likely will with any democratic tax-the-wealthy-plan) he's losing more money despite the actual amount of income he accrues and the value his business posesses. It's like Zeno's parodox about the tortoise and the hare.

Joe the Plumber is only going to be taxed on a fair percentage of his income, and, if he plays his cards correctly come tax time, I doubt he will pay very much tax on anything between $250,000 and $300,000. Fair is fair, and if he makes much more than $300,000, then he should be paying more tax than the Average Joe. If I was making that much, I would not mind paying more tax, as long as I was getting my money's worth out of my government. As it is now, only the wealthy get their money's worth.

Sorry toni, but you are wrong. This country has had a progressive tax structure since 1862. This isn't new and it isn't socialism. If Joe were to make what he says he will make (lets put aside that he misrepresented himself) then he would pay one third of one percent more in taxes under the Obama plan. That is about one days pay. If someone who is make a quarter of a million a year can't pay $900 more in taxes then there is something wrong. The median income in the country is $44,000. Our economy gets stronger when the middle class does well. Heaping more tax breaks on the wealthiest Americans is one of the reasons we are in this mess.

    • I am really suprised that we get to hear from this "Joe" the plumber. The fact that he does owe some back taxes is certainly some interesting news, but the point of his appearance is to portray an intelligent, interested American, not just an emotion swayed voter. I respect the fact that he listens to both sides, even though he seems to be more of a McCain man.

The problem is that is not an intelligent person, but a shill who is shilling for the cons.

Face it, if he were legitimate, he would have his plumber licence and be earning more money. Can't outsource plumbing! Those jobs are going to stay here.

He is just a fake face that McCain and the cons are using. He should get his licence, pay his back taxes as theh country needs them, and pursue his career making an honest living.

    • Why didn't he touch on the fact that he isn't licensed and he actually owes back taxes?

I mean ok I get that he is your everyday guy. Im actually not as concerned about owing money because the way the economy is right now, anyone can fall on hard times. BUT how can he afford to buy a company if a) he owes money because who will loan him the capital to make the purchase and b) how can he do this legally without being licensed.... or do you not have to be licensed to practice? And even if you don't have to be... then back to question a, what bank would loan an unlicensed plumber the money to start a business when he doesn't even have the license to do so?
