when you consider the money going for televised lies compared to helping needy people...
is there really a choice........

Talk to THESE soldiers: Iraq Veterans Against the War brought together more than 300 war veterans on March 13-16, 2008 to discuss soldiers’ actions and the impact of the ongoing occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. At the “Winter Soldier” event, dozens veterans publicly testified about crimes they committed during the course of battle — many of which were prompted by the orders or policies set down by superior officers. Some international law experts say the soldiers’ statements show the need for investigations into potential violations of international law by high-ranking officials in the Bush administration and the Pentagon. The event was designed to demonstrate that well-publicized incidents of US brutality, including the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the massacre of an entire family of Iraqis in the town of Haditha, are not isolated incidents perpetrated by “a few bad apples,” as many politicians and military leaders have claimed. They are part of a pattern, the organizers said, of “an increasingly bloody occupation.” Though BBC predicted that this event would dominate international news, there was a near total back out on this historic news event by the US corporate media.

Not impressed, I have actually talked to solders who have been there for a few years. They tell a different story. No war is pretty. We lost 60,000 in Viet Nam. Seeing dead children makes you hate war even more. Try looking at the pictures of the Kurdish moms and kids still dieing in the streets because of Saddam's gas attacks. It was a noble mission and those kids didn't die in vane. Your opinion doesn't change the facts. We are there, if we just pull out we will be as guilty as Saddam for the slaughter that will ensue.
For Kenny--Not every dictator is amass murderer, Saddam was.Key word WAS! - 3 years ago

So every dictator around the world has to go, by your standards thats a good enough reason to go to war. Your really fucked up in the head. No use trying to discuss this matter.

Saddam had to go, he made Hitler look like Mr. Rogers. He made NO mistake. He will go down in the HISTORY of THE WORLD as a hero and liberator. Have you ever saw anything to it's completion? Iraq is getting better by the day. The people are really happy to be free, thanking us constantly, read something besides Salon and maybe you would realize that. Of course it go's against what you believe so..it doesn't matter, The truth that is.

First of all Iraq did not attack us noamagirl or are you still in belief that they did. A mistake is a mistake and a president with a backbone would have admited this a long time ago. Since it took a year or so for most people to realize we were lied to about Iraq, whats your excuse.

I am seeing that most of the hatred stems from the amount of money spent on the wars. But on 9/12/ 2001 everybody was game. See a President doesn't have the luxury of being lily livered. We made a choice, he is committed to carrying it out to the end, this takes backbone when 1/2 of the country wants to bail, because money is tight and guilt has set in about actually killing the enemy. WAR is HELL, WHEN in HELL TIS best To be a DEVIL..Next time some a hole wants to attack us they will think twice at least. Un like in Spain,France, England etc. We have our balls still.

nobamagirl:
we should have denounced the 9/11 attack .. gone after osama where he was .. not launched a long planned invasion of iraq .. which had nothing to do with 9/11 ..
can't blame it on mistakes.. just business as usual
and it seems about half this country buys it?
it's also so odd that the USA trained and funded both osama bin laden .. and saddam hussien. when they were usable as tools for our corporate rulers .. they could still be our secret government's allies.. if they'd only continued to play along. i'm not talking conspiracies here .. just history - 3 years ago

911 and Iraq are two separate things. Why do you insist on blurring them together? Saddam was breaking the agreement he made in the gulf war. That's why we took him out. That is what we should have done under Clinton. But he had NO balls.

yeah.. exactly.. and yet our country launched the invasion with 9/11 as the reason.. the beginning of
the misguided war on terror.. the perfect enemy for
the military industrial complex.. the more you wage
the war.. the more recruits they get .. oh.. and the
more $$$ you make and all at future tax payers
expense .. war profiteers are anything but patriotic
study your history.. saddam was a u.s. pawn . we
created him.. used him.. and then used him again
as reason to invade iraq.. don't be so quick to defend
bush's terror war.... the $$$ and power involved tend to foster greed and evil .. and patriotism is only a guess at best .. it can be blind. best thing to do is keep an open mind and pay attention . oh.. avoid fox news as well. research history . the building of empire has been the downfall of many a past civilization.. and anyone who thinks it can't happen to the US is ignorant - 3 years ago

The president is a token, just look at what Bush has done and re-think that statement. Whatever it costs for Barack to become president it will be money well spent. So far Obama's campaign has raised over 600
million dollars or about 2 days in Iraq. - 3 years ago

The thought crossed my mind, it's a wonder that people don't seemed phased by it but if one candidate remains silent on the tube where America is glued, then he's screwed. Unfortunately it is a neccasary evil.

...Phil....you are right...people always seem to want a savior to come and instantly help them...maybe that just boils down to the fact that there are many that just want someone else to do everything.....if you are in the middle of the ocean with three others...and a hole starts in your boat...are you the kind to automatically stick your finger in it or look around for someone else....the money spent on elections...especially for the president is wasted....the president is nothing but a token....would it not be great if McCain and Obama both said.....we are suspending our advertising for the rest of the time....please donate your money to those you see around you that need it......I would respect a politician for the first time in my life....Golden Ruler....Will.......

our priorities are way off in this country and our political climate is anything but grounded in reality. i was talking to my former roommate who is from London and he was commenting on how the USA has the most scripted debates in the world. we dont talk about real issues, so its no wonder that we dont focus on real solutions. we are stuck in ruts that lead to the same place.
millions of americans are waking to this all the time. we need to be the change we wish to see and get our nation back on track. as we wake, change will come from the bottom. be ready. - 3 years ago
