Well maybe if ALL guns were outlawed, rounded up and melted down, no one wouldn't need one to "defend" themselves. You wanna gun? Join the military.
Slavery was legal, but we had to make a Constitution amendment to outlaw it. Its about time we do the same with guns.
It's not cowboy days anymore, people. Wake up.

Philosophically, I agree with you 100%, but on a practical level, that could never happen. Look at England - guns have been outlawed there for decades, but they have been entering the country at ever increasing levels, and gun violence is rising steadily. That's in a country without a history of "cowboy" culture. I'm afraid the attitude and feel of the old west isn't far off for us. Sad to say, but it might be time that everybody's armed. It's the individual's version of Mutually Assured Destruction.

"...someone who has escaped injury due to private gun ownership at least three times..."
!!!!
what you need is an amendment to protect your street smarts, or maybe just a new place to liveIn the meantime, consider the fact that gun control, which has changed little in the past several decades, might not be amongst the biggest issues in the country right now and maybe shouldn't be the #1 reason for picking a candidate.
Then again, if we get 4 more years of war-mongering, maybe we'll all need those guns when the rest of the world finally has enough and comes after US.

Oh, aside from the Assault Weapons ban of 1994, "Gun control has stayed the same" for the past ten years. Get some facts or get out.

Hey Dmitri,
Try reading the post carefully before you reply with something incorrect and incendiary.I didn't say "stayed the same", and I didn't say "past ten years" I said "has changed little in the past several decades" - taking into account that the assault weapon ban was both enacted and expired in that time period. In the same period of time, The Brady Bill was passed, but the main provision in it expired as well. Also, the Firearm Owners Protection Act came into law in that same time period which reigned in the ATF's enforcement and revised several provisions of the 1968 Gun Control Act in favor of firearms owners and dealers. Therefore, the end result of all of this is that little has changed in the in the past several decades.
I have the facts. You should too.

Thank you, "incendiary" is my biz.
As for the facts, you had them but failed to convey them in your original post. Nice save the second time. One should not confuse cause and effect.
Plus, regardless of the gun protection acts, I still regard the Assault Weapons Ban as very significant, mainly because I live in California which has unfortunately kept this blatantly unconstitutional ban in place. - 3 years ago

Another thing that pro gun folks always say is that guns are necessary to protect against the government....
Funny,
When George W Bush stole the election, I didn't see anyone marching on Washington DC...
Did you?

It's interesting that many of the the feeble minded McCainiacs are only interested in the second amendment, all other rights are less important. No right to assemble speak print have habeas corpus rights of due process voter supression is just okey dokey, but leave me that submachine gun for hunting deer and other pests.

He may be anti-second amendment, but Biden is very much for it. He isn't going to try anything with gun control, he's on shaky enough ground with conservatives and libertarians as is.

So let me get this straight. Obama is a racist, anti-american, muslim, who wants to raise taxes, kill babies, take away all your guns and plot attacks against America with Bill Ayers in his living room.
And he's still going to be President !?!

unitedliberty,
you will only cause your agenda harm by spreading this obvious fallacy as your truth. do your research, as credible information regarding obama's gun policies and beliefs is widely available on the internet, and particularly can be found from his website, barackobama.com.
don't be a slave to the republicans evil regime. whether obama is in this for us or not, the republicans are not in this for you, for sure.

ryan, i am not calling republicans evil. i am referencing the mainstream republican agenda.
i actually share many views with REAL republicans, (gun rights, small government, anti-pork-barrel spending, individual rights, etc) but the mainstream republicans are not pro-country, nor pro-small-government, nor are they pro-individual-rights, which i would definitely consider misleading and evil.

"Protect Gun Rights"
Millions of hunters and shooters own and use guns each year. Barack Obama believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right, and he respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns.

I for one, would hope that we could get rid of guns.
Why?
For one good reason....
No guns...no gun related deaths, especially deaths of innocent folks including children.
But we also have a magic bullet here...
Prayer....
Some day, God will get rid of this nastiness and what will you say to him?

people will kill people with or without a gun
the reason the second amendment exists is because the people in this country should be able to overpower the government in case of another king George the 3erd (i think that was his name)

as most of the others have noted, no one is actually going to try to take away your weapons and your purely delusional if you vote based on something as goofy as that. as was proven in dc, regular weapons will not be taken away, military grade hardware is not required by any us citizen. if that's why your voting....just stay home

Why single out Obama? Neither major candidate supports the 2nd Amendment so I find this post unjust in itself.
Voted up only because the link mentions that both habitually vote against gun owner rights. Please do the Current community a favor and title your posts fairly.

He may have a bad voting record in the case of the 2nd Amendment, but the Supreme Court saved him from having to make a hard decision.
I firmly believe in the 2nd Amendment. It was put there so that American citizens could protect themselves against an unjust government.
However, I will still vote for him because of many other reasons. - 3 years ago
