Colombia's indigenous protest against Uribe

Vierotchka
Thousands gather for 62-mile march to demand justice and land.

10,000 indigenous Colombians are marching against President Alvaro Uribe's policies. The protest comes one week after violence erupted during demonstrations to press for land reform and dialogue with the government.

    • ....the Indigenous people chew coca leaves to function in a very hostile environment....as they have done for thousands of years...the problem lies in the government of Colombia and the United States supporting those that distribute the extract from the leaves and all of the idiots worldwide that snort it up their noses and rub it on their ass....it is so great to see people with backbone that have been pushed so far and finally start to take a stand....that will probably never happen again in America and too many people know that and depend on that....Golden Ruler....Will....

    • It seems the economic staple of Columbia involves farming, these farmers are making a life for themselves - not necessarily perpetuating the economic market schemes, but surviving. These peoples, for thousands have years have lived and carved a niche in the systems they inhabit and to take away lands from Indigians is simply wrong.... but it seems it happened all too often in the generations before I was born, and even continues today in some for another around the world, but the Americas have contributed to the genocidal acts with a special twist - utilizing governmental executive authority to ravage & destroying native peoples, just as one would eradicate a pestering weed - and these acts are costing lives and ruining cultures just as had been done so many times before. What's worse is the compensation the gov'ts declare as fair - moving & confining nations of people into boxes swathed out of vacant land which must then be converted to suitable homes destroying the lands there in the process, all the while the selling off the natives' lands to the highest bidders to be inhabited and paved over with condominiums and mercados; and that perpetuates more crimes against man in myriad ways again & again & again/

Why cannot modern gov'ts accept their country the way it was before they enforced sanctions on their Indigians and laid claim to & placed mandates on the land which those persons inhabit?!?
