ANP: Voters to sue the state over voter rights.

Earlier this week, ANP reported that come November, Pennsylvania voters could face substantial delays at the polls. Now, voters are suing the state of Pennsylvania. With the help of Voter Action and the NAACP, they filed a complaint in the Philadelphia federal court, specifically citing an interview between the American News Project and Philadelphia Deputy City Commissioner Fred Voigt.

    • I cant believe that PA. runs its voting like that. Here in NY. we have plenty of polling locations and plenty of voting machines. And the polls (in my town) open at 6am till 9pm. If poeple cant get in to vote during the day, then they need a 2nd shift in PA. They should add it on to keep the polls open till everyone get a chance to vote after work.

    • Fred Voigt may have a point when you consider it is only four years since the last election which is not much time to get the ship on course.

On the other hand he may be one of the biggest idiots onTV at the moment

      GW holds that position

As always, there's text...and then there's subtext. Granted, the tape's been edited.

Voight's job (purportedly) is to promote democracy by helping people vote. That being so, he should be pushing hard for back-up systems, for additional employees. He should be demonstrating empathy, anguish, and dismay that many citizens of PA are being disenfranchised. He should be shouting about the subverting of democracy.

But is he? No. He leans back and says, effectively, "Tough shit!" You work in one part of the city and live in another and Tuesday's a work day? "Tough shit!" Your employer won't give you time off to vote? "Tough shit!"

This guy is way beneath contempt.

    • Was that guy appointed, or was he elected? Is he a Republican seeking to suppress the vote? Regardless, he needs to be shit-canned!

    • What the hell Can't they have 5 machines and at least 2 or 3 backups, move a few of the under used machines in the White areas where they wait 10 to 15 min. and run them over to the black voting area. Ya should be able to vote anywhere anytime all ya should have is a voters registration card and a valid pictured ID. Everywhere in the Country, Online voting, mail in for anyone, Voting everywhere 7 days before the election. They could fix it but the good ol Boy system just keeps spending all that money on advertising and lobbyists. oh yea by the way I am white and everyone should have the same equal rights and I mean EQUAL

    • I'm sending a strongly worded message to certain media watchdogs about Fred Voigt and I suggest that others do likewise to expose this man.

    • i'm a PA voter, and never once have i had to wait in line any more than 5 minutes. i'm baffled by these stories and video tape of mile long lines and people waiting for hours. i don't get it. maybe it's because i live in a white neighborhood with lots of republicans.

    • Wow, what would the 'founding fathers' say about this? Philadelphia of all places, the birthplace of the United States democracy, isn't counting all of the votes?

    • What a jerk. He just contradicts himself. And he is lazy. Hey asshole, how about you fix the machines and provide a backup? AND follow the state law and only allow the correct number at each polling location... and if you need more create more poll locations
