Egypt school beating 'kills boy'

An Egyptian teacher at a primary school in Alexandria is alleged to have beaten an 11-year-old pupil to death, according to local newspaper reports.

The maths teacher, Haitham Nabeel Abdelhamid, who worked at Saad Othman school, was furious because Islam Amro had not finished his homework. After using a ruler to punish him, the teacher is alleged to have taken the young boy outside the classroom. Mr Abdelhamid is then alleged to have hit the boy violently in his stomach. The young pupil fainted and was taken to hospital where he died after a sharp drop in blood pressure and heart failure. The teacher is reported by Egyptian newspaper Al Masry Alyoum to have told the prosecutor that he was only trying to "discipline the boy, not to kill him". Mr Abdelhamid was remanded in custody on manslaughter charges.

    • This is so sad and again brings to mind the abuse that children are exposed to and a society that looks the other way when these acts of violence take place. This teacher to but put to death . Stronger laws need to be inplace as to no corporal punishment permited. That is outright CHILD ABUSE. On the other hand the same abuse against women on the Streets in Egypt . There should be education as to NO TOLERACE ....... TAKE a STAND .............and DENOUNCE in your communities those that participate in these Acts ,,,,,,,,,,,,if that does not work ........Do as we do here ,,,,in USA carry MAZZE SPray and you will see they will run aways like the cowards they are ................or better yet put amonia in a spray bottle and spray their faces ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they will soon learn their lesson ..............and will have to think twice ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    • Another stupid, ignorant loss of a precious life. There are no words to dignify his death. I can't imagine what I would do if someone had done this to one of my sons...

    • This teacher is an example of violence that society has allowed to occur during our times. It is depicted on television, in video games, and all around us. Somebody has to pay the price for an angry society. Unfortunately it was this little boy.

    • Abdelhamid must have shown signs of his demented behavoir prior to this savage attack and should have had a close watch. When in Egypt a few years ago the temparature was around 37/8 degrees and walking in Cairo was in itself an effort.

      The heat may have got to this man but thinking again the locals all seemed to accept the heat and got slowly on with their lives

      I often had the cane at school and was sometimes worried but I cannot imagine what this poor kid went through. The teacher has no case to answer

    • Uhm....of course people say they were not trying to kill someone when that someone dies. That means nothing. The fact that you were doing enough to end up killing them matters.

      The sad fact that you feel all sorry for yourself that you've done something this stupid is of no concern since that's nothing but self pity not remorse for the actions taken. If there were remorse sorry would have been stated not a justification of such stupid action.
