In part two of our interview with security expert Sunil Ram, Sunil explains the complex affairs of the Pakistani military and their reliance on drug trafficking revenue. Sunil explains how this story has gone completely unreported as a result of the sheer difficulty in obtaining information on the activities of the Pakistani military-business elite. Meanwhile, NATO and the US are turning a blind eye toward the movement of drugs through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Sunil Ram is a military and security expert with Alexis International, an international consulting firm. He is the Contributing Editor of SITREP, the private defense journal of the Royal Canadian Military Institute, and has served in the Canadian Forces as both a soldier and officer between 1980-86 and 1997-99. Sunil also served as a military adviser to the Saudi Royal Family for over ten years, including involvement in the 1991 Gulf War and the Yemeni conflict in the 1990s. He has won a series of awards, including the UN Global Citizen Award presented to him in 1995 by the UN. He has also published a variety of articles and books and has had columns on military affairs published in newspapers, such as Canada’s Globe and Mail.

I know about 2 years after the start off the afgan war they did an inteview with a US genral and even he said they had never discover any drugs with is amazing considering it's a large part of their Gross Domestic Product. Their is definatly some kind of conspiericy just like the iran contras and the cia funneling crack into LA. When will we learn?

Why is this hard to believe? We in the West are in a media bubble. Don't be so small!! This is the real problem with this country, too eager to learn too little and believe so little from so few sources. Come on. We have now at our fingertips the world!! And guess what??? Other countries carry news programs, etc, and better yet, with a truly local sense.

so how does he know about the assets of the paksitani military.?? Our gov't has given them more money than ever. Our gov't tells them when to act, etc..that puts their leaders in check with the public there. Causing further turmoil and instability.which pisses the pakistanis off further. I agree on the karzai gov't being corrupt and puppets. I think from time to time it's very convenient to throw the "drug" label on a country. They've been neighbors for how long..This video is dubious at best.

This is too a certain extent true I am from Pakistani & do know certain army generals plus the 12 families you talk about but as the dude said down below…..The US has drug trafficking support CIA and other black ops... All along the same government is waging a war of its own against many of the drugs they bring in the first place. It’s all about money..... The afghan war was fought a portion from drug money the vacuum of the war left war lords who worked with the army to have there own political agenda ... Afghanistan produces 80 % of the worlds opium its land locked of course ppl would like to get a share if it goes via Pakistani ports....

Simplistic, but I have always said drugs should be manufactured, packaged, marketed, probably TAXED, then legally sold. Imagine this world if it were so. No leverage for criminal cartels, street thugs, foreign smuggling and violence. I know id gov. could tax them, this could come about.

Wrong, hsaleem - this is nowhere in the mainstream media, it is factual, and certainly not being bombarded by the media. My Pakistani friends, who are highly placed and members of some of the Twelve Families (prominently from خاندان نون), have told me as much. Although they belong in these families, they disapprove of what the elite is doing in Pakistan.

Yeah! I am glad you saved me the trouble of correcting the "gentleman" before you who denounced this report as BS. I find this information riveting and absolutely directly connected with our policies, future, mostly. It seems that this will be a difficult and sensitive issue. Power AND money corrupts. My questions to you are: who are the 12 families? Are they part of the elite? and Are these in control in Pakistan able to fall under a lable of good or not good regarding their presence, actions and approachability? I've much to learn. Thank you

Vierotchka:
The 12 families are the leading political and economical families in an elite that comprises some thirty or so famlies/clans. They pretty much control the country, its economy, its industries, and some of the families are from the military elite too. They are not always in agreement with each other, either - there are strong rivalries among them. Of course, not every member of these families agree with such policies and goings on, but there is little they can do individually.
