Spencer Overton: We need an independent election commission; Is the fox guarding the henhouse. Part 3Accusations of voter fraud, and voter suppression continue to abound in the US presidential campaign, with both democrats and republicans blaming each other. Professor Spencer Overton believes that there is a need to curb political manipulation as well as a need for greater transparency.
Spencer Overton is Professor of Law at The George Washington University Law School, where he specializes in the law of democracy. Professor Overton's academic articles on election law have appeared in several leading law journals, and his book "Stealing Democracy: The New Politics of Voter Suppression" was recently published and released by W.W. Norton. He was also a commissioner on the Jimmy Carter-James Baker Commission on Federal Election Reform as well as the Commission on Presidential Nomination Timing and Scheduling. Professor Overton currently serves on the boards of Common Cause, Demos, and the American Constitution Society. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Jamestown Project at Yale, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to articulating new ideas for enriching American democracy.

Regarding voting fraud, an experience from a friend of mine received this morning...
"Hello Friends & Family:
I know none of you will forget to vote on Tuesday, but just in case here is a friendly reminder and note that all elections throughout the years have reported tricks to get people away from the poles by various groups of people with negative interests. Don't be swayed from showing up at your polling place on Tuesday for any reason. I would not believe it was true, but it happened to me this year. I received a real vote by mail form from my registrars office in California and days later a fake one that looked official with postage paid, but going out of state all vote by mail forms go to your local registrars office for counting. When we verified it, it was a complete fake! Presumably I was a target, because of my Latino name and that I have been signed up on line to several Obama events, but it is hard to trace its origin.
So no matter what your voting preference, be aware and vote. " kdcv

kennynotown you and your labels. Obama's entire approach to white America has been White Guilt.
Obama never apoligised for his pasters remarks about the US of KKK. Nor did he apoligise about his comment that White Pennsylvanian are "bitter".
Obama's mind set is stuck in 1968, but the country has move on. Obama is trying to sell the same white guilt, that was sold in '68, but it has gone sour.
Articspirit: You got the Obama campaign down pat, when you said we should elect an American Indian to rebuild rt 66.
Obama wants to be President to improve the lot of the Black America. An American Indian would improve rt 66.
The President is President for all of America not a "Chosen Few".
thank you Articspirit for showing me that.

How about a native American Indian for president that should prove interesting. They could also channel some money back onto the Notorious Route 66 ;)

You know what is amazing ... out of the entire voting population less than 60 percent make the decisions for all of America.
I meant that amazing in a bad way, btw.

mo 1y, you are truly a fine example of a fascist sympathizer. Go along with the good old boys and you will regret your history. The time is now too change the course we are on before it's too late. Try changing the dial on your radio for once.

The Obamamedia polls have been out of wack. Nothing is consistant. Obama has leads from 15 points to 0.
The truth will be found out on Wednesday.
The truth is that Obama used the last drop of white guilt.

Sarah Palin is antithetical to everything Hillary Clinton has spent her life working for, and everything that most self respecting American women have achieved and worked for during the last 30 years.
I'm sure you can find some freak who will say they were Hillary supporters and now they will vote for McCain, but there are all kinda freaks out there.
The vast majority of women voters will be voting for Obama, because they want what he offers, an intelligent and humane approach to running the country that does not include giving more money to the rich, more welfare to giant corporations, more war and torture on the world, more marching towards global climate destruction....(McCain promises a new Nuclear power plant in every state???!!)
Obama will bring back our US constitution, access to middle class opportunities, better health care access for our children.
Most women have worked hard to earn their education and their positions in the US economy, they did not get there from beauty pageants and bullshit, like Sarah.

I did not get my education from pageants and bs, but I still like Sarah. Why hate? That's a total waste of my time and energy.
Would have been nice if my scholarships paid a little more though, or I wouldn't have as much debt. The scholarship I got was academic. Oh well. It did help. - 4 years ago

I dunno AlessandroMachi, I watched the whole video and I think that this is perhaps counter-counter-propaganda by the GOP to get Democratic Hillary supporters to protest vote for John McCain. This type of protest vote won't accomplish anything that Hillary supporters wanted to accomplish, it will only help the GOP to stay in executive power. This will only undermine all that Hillary supporters stand for.
McCain is of the same ingredients as George W. a puppet of the GOP's current masters. Their master only want to have business booming for a select few industries; namely oil and defense, while other billionaires want to really free up the markets and create opportunities for other industries.

ACORN is not some saintly group helping the underprivileged. ACORN uses federal funds to help democrats get elected, that is disgusting.
ACORN most likely helped Barack Obama cheat in the caucus states earlier this year.

The Orange revolution was not a spontaneous event, tactics developed by American activists were used in response to election fraud similar to that which was happening right here in the US just weeks before.
We do have the corporate fox guarding the hen house, or raiding it. We need to be ready to respond if this one gets stolen too.
"funded and trained in tactics of political organization and nonviolent resistance by a coalition of Western pollsters and professional consultants funded by a range of Western government and non-government agencies. According to The Guardian, these include the U.S. State Department and USAID along with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the International Republican Institute, the Bilderberg Group, the NGO Freedom House and George Soros's Open Society Institute. The National Endowment for Democracy, a foundation supported by the U.S. government, has supported non-governmental democracy-building efforts in Ukraine since 1988.[15] Writings on nonviolent struggle by Gene Sharp formed the strategic basis of the student campaigns."

I have a correction************ I looked up the census for/on registered voters vs actual voters. It is certainly better than I thought. But, still a bit scary if you ask me. It's more around 34% of the country makes our decisions for all of us, that's voters, folks!

I vote for an independent election commission. and I think that everyone should be required to vote by mail, no more standing in lines. That would eliminate all the election fraud and voter suppression that is going on these days.

WoW is there a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed in this place!! But, you know, it has taken decades of the average citizen not speaking up that has helped all this along. We all became complacent, i feel. We all need to hold EVERY elected official local, national, accountable for every vote and position they take. If you knew that only one third of the USA even is registered to vote!! Come on. Then, not all of them vote. SO YOUR LIFE IS IN THE HANDS OF MAYBE 10% OF THE POPULATION And people scream and complain yet aren't even voting.....ever. And we wonder why this country is so f@#ked up!!!!!! Special interests? you bet, 10% of country running it like they want to. So lets do something!!!! Vote, and for OBAMA

Amazingly corporations are all chartered by state governments.
So, what you are saying is that government is set up for government's purposes.
Yup, a tautology.
I wish you people would learn something some day and quit bothering the rest of us with such ignorant statements.
