Pepe Escobar Commentary: Al Gore campaigns for Obama in Florida; Bin Laden still not heard from.

For months there has been relentless talk of an October surprise capable of swaying the US presidential election - just as the Osama bin Laden video "Message to the American people" released in late October 2004. Possible October surprises include former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsing Senator Barack Obama and former vice-president Al Gore campaigning for Obama in Florida - the state that cost him the election in 2000. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda has vaguely endorsed Senator John McCain. But many - including top US government officials - are still waiting for an Osama bin Laden video.

Pepe Escobar, born in Brazil is the roving correspondent for Asia Times and an analyst for The Real News Network. He's been a foreign correspondent since 1985, based in London, Milan, Los Angeles, Paris, Singapore, and Bangkok. Since the late 1990s, he has specialized in covering the arc from the Middle East to Central Asia, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has made frequent visits to Iran and is the author of Globalistan and also Red Zone Blues: A Snapshot of Baghdad During the Surge both published by Nimble Books in 2007.

    • Like I said before. I have nothing against Obama or McCain personally. They are doing just what they suppose to do with the help of the Corp News Media and the manipulated statistical polls. These two parties are responsible for the actual financial issues happening Today in the US and the people are falling in the same tune of song as the previous Years. I am about to think that people enjoy to be deceived and manipulated over and over again.

Interesting that you should mention that.

When Secretary Paulson and in particular the Treasury was criticized for having no contingency plan ready for an economic meltdown, and only 3 pages of "notes" to examine, somebody stepped forward to say - "Hell no, we've been working on this for months!"

Which resulted in zero follow up.

      As in,

"You'vre known for MONTHS about this? "

"You're still not ready after MONTHS of deliberation?"

"Who else knew about these plans, when were they informed, and why was there no warning to the banks, stock market and general public?

      Curious.

    • If this is a ploy by Obamas campaign to throw Osama Bin Laden into the pot it is a brilliant strategy! If the US take this on board it will bring home to the people the troubles GW Bush has brought on the US and bring them sharply to the world of reality.

It is understandable why Al Gore is in Florida he is still feeling the hurt of how he was cheated out of the top job by the Bush Mafia and seeks revenge.
