Palin releases medical records on election eve

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin released a summary of her medical history late on Monday as the 2008 U.S. presidential race drew to a close.

The 44-year-old Alaska governor has had no major medical problems, her personal physician said in a two-page letter released by Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign.

"Governor Palin is in excellent health and has no known health problems that would interfere with her ability to carry out the duties and obligation of vice president of the United States of America," wrote Dr. Cathy Baldwin-Johnson.

McCain, 72, Democratic contender Barack Obama, 47, and his running mate Joe Biden, 65, released their medical information earlier in the campaign.

In an NBC interview last month, Palin characterized interest in her medical history as another in a line of intrusive requests by "curiosity seekers."

Asked specifically whether she would release her medical records, she replied, "The medical records. So be it."

    • I think medical records are nobody's business, they should be kept private even if the person is running for president or vice-president.

      It's just basic privacy.

    • It's not going to change anything now. There was no point. She might have stopped controversy if she had done this weeks before. If there was nothing to be seen, why wait?

    • A letter from a Doctor is a very long way from her records. That she waited til the "NIGHT" before voting implies there are things she does not want to be seen. If(god forbid) she is elected it should be mandatory that all her records be public prior to 1/20/09

    • John McCain has had melanoma cancer four times, those are the records the American people needed to see today. That nimrod would be his replacement if he were to be elected.

    • We need a mental exam on her. When I worked as a fish and game officer I found it strange that there is a large group of people who absolutely love to kill. Causing the death and suffering of animals somehow brings them pleasure and they spend lots of time and money in pursuit of that pleasure. Palin and Cheny are of that ilk.....they both have a mean sadistic streak and seem to love visiting death on other living organisms.
      These are DANGEROUS people.

Character assassinate? Poosta7 is right... these people claim to want all life protected but kill animals they have no intention of eating... they assassinate their own character with their own words and actions, we have nothing to do with it. How can you be pro life and yet kill animals?

They are dangerous, for this very reason alone.

No. People, like yourself, who character assassinate are just as bad as the people he is talking about.

      He character assassinates.

Killing anything is wrong, apparently, so don't kill people's character...or help, if that's what you think you're doing when they are doing it themselves.

Don't point out hypocrites when you yourself can fall under that same category.

      move on.

I see... she engages in obvioulsy hypocritical behavior, and I get called a hypocrite by you for pointing out her hypocritical behavior.

Jammer, you are an ignorant, pissed off little man that makes absolutely no sense.

it's pretty logical since we're only different by a few genes and chromosomes...

Nine- You're wasting your time and energy arguing with Jammer- he's as dense as a brick wall.

JJammer, you compared character assassination to LITERALLY KILLING AN ANIMAL. how absolutely stupid is that?

Talking shit on someone based on their actions versus KILLING an animal for NOTHING but fun. WOW thats a stretch to any common sense.

JJAmmer, I don't understand why you would engage such ignorant people.

Poosta claims fish & game officers are just suppose to protect animals, WRONG, do cops just protect people? no they enforce the law. Game wardens enforce hunting laws. They hunt too.

Nine, laws protect animals and abortion clinics. I am surprised you called someone "ignorant" and compared a tradition of killing animals in order to eat, which is how man has procreated, hence your existence. To killing your own offspring, man's demise. I can see the similarity between neither one having a voice but at least one had a life. Nine I hope you are hot, cause your intelligence won't get you there.

    • poosta7:

the point she is making is that palin kills animals that she doesn't intend to eat. that is killing for the sake of killing. side note, but do you get outraged when you hear that certain cultures believe that dog meat is a delicacy? I just wonder, because if you are outraged at that, then your argument goes out the window because they actually eat what they kill. but here, hunters are killing animals for sport with no intention to eat them. what is worse?

      DIV
No, nine's point was to make someone out to be a hypocrite and instead made him/herself look stupid.
DIV you are assuming something you don't know.

I know some Alaskans and a lot of hunters, I am not one but I can say, all the hunters I know, eat what they kill. Because they go after the 'big moose' and it is a sport for them doesn't mean they aren't providing food. I have never hunted with Palin, you must have to draw those conclusions.

Also, I don't care what people eat in other countries; dog, cat, goat, (so keep the window closed.) Some people here eat possum, not for me. I'm not even outraged at Nine's claims, more like disgusted and humored by the lack of intelligence.

DIV Here's a real question for you, how do you feel about the sacrifice of animals for religion, that will never be eaten?

    • poosta7:

what about the wolves she shoots? anyway, in response to your question: i abhor sacrificing of animals. the religion I practice is against death of any animal and as such believes that its followers should all be vegetarian.

thanks for responding my question. I hope it didn't come across as a personal attack, I meant it as a general question - sometimes people think that it's ok for some animals to be killed but only the ones THEY think are alright for hunting, and that makes no sense to me.

personally, the problem with using the term "for sport" is that to me sport means they are doing it for fun, with no functionality except to kill. I see in your comment you believe that for sport means that they will use the animal as food, so I think I understand better where you are coming from.

    • Wow... you guys will attack anyone with an R after their name for any reason. We have already seen that liberals are horrible losers, we may get to see how bad you are as winners, but one fact still remains. We get the government we deserve and I have pretty much come to the sad realization that America is destined to become just like most other countries in this world (A huge oppressive socialistic bureaucracy that interferes with every aspect of an individual’s life from cradle to grave). The once great country I knew that rewarded success and allowed everyone the chance to succeed (or fail) will now slip in to mediocrity like the countries of Europe.

    • I don't think a two page summary from a doctor counts as medical records. I suspect she's hiding the many tests she got done to confirm her youngest had Down's Syndrome. She doesn't want her hypocrisy on reproductive choice shown. She thought about abortion, made a choice. She doesn't want other women to have the same option.

That's why I voted Obama, because I will not allow anti-freedom candidates like Palin to go unchallenged.

I'm not talking about walking a few reporters past a mountain of paper.
