Hoodie ban is 'justified'

Image

A decision to ban anti-socials youth from wearing hoodies has been upheld by the High Court. The lawyer argued that the judge was banning hooded sweatshirts for matters of distaste rather than protecting society, but the judge said that it was in fact a way to help identification and keep youths from harassing people. Do you think wearing a hoodie should be criminalized?

    • When a state attempts to enforce a dress code something has gone terribly wrong. Clearly the individual in question is a troubled youth in need of help and supervision. In my opinion, however, once the concern turns to the superficiality of wardrobe the battle has already been lost. The kid needs guidance and cleaer consequences for misbehavior; he does not need a wardrobe consultant.

    • I think the Governments should have no control over what we want to wear, its going to turn into a V for Vendetta type of thing if the government is aloud to control everything

    • Oh yea great way to further alienate the young population. I can't believe how youth can be so looked down upon in the UK, for just being adolescents. They would probably just make being betweeen the ages of 12 - 17 illegal is feasibly possible. Poor kids just think everyone dispises them and they're bad for being whoever they are.

Anyway, this ban on wearing a hoodie it stupid for many short and long term reasons. Most humans will go through a phase of development where a hoodie is needed to mature into adulthood. . .

What curmudgeon sat around and thought of this? "damn kids with their rap music, walking around places, wearing their sweatshirt hoods"

    • Wow. This is out of control. People need to stand up against things like this. We need to stop banning things. No one has a right to tell anyone what to wear. It just sounds stupid. Like who ever thought of this was ruled by fear. Very sad stuff indeed.

    • As our government takes more and more control over our lives (as the liberals are always working to do) these types of laws will come to the US.

    • Weird. This is some type hyper-security measure which is created to protect the public from "crime" and "terrorism" by taking away their freedoms. Ha. Nothing is sacred anymore.
Leave the hoodies aloneor the U.K might be subject to increase in health problems like hypothermia.

(Let no one try to start that here in the U.S.)

    • Whatever the limited single opinions on this subject on the web. The decent living, and none responsive masses will agree with the judge. Unless the petty criminals get out of hand, and overrun the legal system, then society will rebel.

I believe, give them enough rope etc. fits here.

    • notice though that the court has emphasised "antisocial youths" - this means that only people who're known for using hoodies in a threatening manner (i.e. using them to conceal their ID) have been banned from wearing them. Maybe the rest of us law abiding hoodie-wearers will be given a break and not scare old ladies for once.

    • I love hoodies...this is an outrage! 'These outrages will never be forgotten'.

Seriously though, hoodies are awesome, not sure what is up with the UK on this.

    • well, its not about banning hoodies is it? It's about preventing little wankers from running around in the after they've proven themselves well, little wankers. We need some stricter measures, and if it comes to banning certain types of clothing to sort out the kids, then so be it.

    • If this guy has truly been in and out of the system as many times as they say, his wardrobe choices ought to be last on the list of considerations. Focus instead on the bad attitude he's putting out, get him an education and instil some sort of values in him - taking away his precious hoodie isn't gonna straighten him up, and its not gonna save the world from his antics either.

    • I also dont get how someone who hangs out in a gang called the "Cherry Boyz" could be anti-social.... Its all f'ed up.... The kid is NO innocent youth. Should they impose a ban on hoodies all together... Well now its a different tune.

    • At first I couldn't agree with you all more... After reading the article I think this vagrant should be off the street for a little while. We arent talking about a misguided youths first offense... This criminal has a record of violence.... It would be the same as a hacker hiding behind a screen stealing your identity only here he will mug you for it.

"...Lord Justice Latham said the district judge had found that Mr Barnes was wearing a hoodie with the intention of causing fear and reducing the risk of being recognised."

In this case he was not wearing the hoodies to keep warm. Just hope he gets caught stealing his first scarf.

If someone is having rounds with the law, in and out of the system, I think the last thing we should be dealing with is his wardrobe choices. The hoodie has nothing to do with the real problem, which is the guy needs an attitude adjustment!
