Polish journalist of "Gazeta Wyborcza", largest non-tabloid Polish newspaper, criticizes Obama for not speaking out about the anti-missile shield.

    • I'm sure Obama is giving this a good deal of thought, but I am pleased that hehas yet to comment on it. It's not his place to amke a stand on it, since he is still the pres-elect. I agree with neocongo's statement
      Besides, no matter what he might say right now, it would simply be fuel for the fire of those who are opposed to even his breathing.
      I honestly believe that Russia is posturing to do three things:
      1. Flip Bush off on his way out
      2. Challenge Obama to deal with them in order to ascertain the strength of his spine
      3. Rattle their sabres for the 'pleasing sound'

    • This is precisely the type of incident on which President-Elect Obama should have no comment, nor will he. On foreign policy issues more than any, there needs to be one president at a time.

    • This is the good old dillema of European countries, whether to try and appease Russia or rather go for a straight confrontation - somehow other options are often not available.

      Anyway, I think the fear of Russian anger is really going too far. When Poland was joining NATO in 1999, that was when Russian rage really reached it's peak, with threats of installing en masse nuclear weapons in Kaliningrad and pointing them at Polish cities, there was a great increase in spying activities and so on. However, it never lead to any serious consequences and things got back to normal.

      It would be cool if the US and Europe could come to a common ground on how to make Russia happy. How about, make Russia a favoured gas and oil supplier to Europe, but under the condition that supplies could be freely redistributed amongst EU member states? This would certianlly diminish fears in Poland of being singled out and cut off from energy.
