Forbes magazine President and CEO Steve Forbes called Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson "the worst treasury secretary we've had in modern times", citing, among other things, the government's handling of the housing crisis.

"Yet, he still has control of hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer bailout money to divy-up anyway he sees fit with no oversight."

    • Deer in the headlights??

Man, Paulson looks like he's freaking out! He's posted at Bush's side like an anxious dog that's been told to heel!

... and Bush is such a shithead.. he's still talking like he's trying to be cool or something, even though he knows he's f@ked up and has the lowest ratings ever and might possibly looking at doing prison time if convicted of his crimes.

    • The origin of the mess lies with us. We let our government be taken over by monied interests. They govern. But of course, they only steer the political structure to create their bottom-line. So we are without governance. Big boat with no rudder.
The people that get your tax money dangle blue and red flags to make imbeciles not see.
And now they stole it all. And you still don't see.
The value of dollars are only and wholly a translation of the goods, services and production of American people who work. Not Chinese or any foreign peoples. There is no other value.

We've got people stealing the cash. So while you work and work - they are taking your efforts from the top.

    • Oh yes, the Mesiaha is coming with his disciples and all will be grand. Wish I could believe that. The origin of the economic mess does not lie with Republicans as much as Democrats. I do believe the over-sight of Freddie, Fannie are both Dems who got huge bonuses. We better accept the fact that once people have a "government job" of any type (I used to work for state government and saw it first hand)....there is a sense of entitlement to benefits of all types.

We are in deep shit now and certain people will keep blaming Republicans for years after suicides, bankruptcies, loss of wealth, have gone on for years.

Terrorists arent going anywhere, and the economic decay is a result of decades of living beyond our means. Now we are borrowing trillions from the rest of the world. The long dark night may never end.

    • The buck stops with Bush. Although there is plenty of blame to go around, and many Republicans are guilty of crimes great and small, the origin of the mess is Bush. The administration's incompetence will become the stuff of legend. The Republicans are shamed and ruined as a party. But there is hope. The long dark night is coming to an end. Soon it will be morning in America. Yes we can.

    • OMG, I just watched the Bush/Paulson video on the news announcing the 'bailout' sequel # 10....you have to watch it and see Paulson's face. The poor man looked like a 'deer in the headlights" as his eyes darted around from camera to camera...It lasted so long and I felt embarrassed for him. he didnt say a word while Bush said his usual BS. Scary times for sure.

    • I do believe Paulson has been very reckless with the bailout money but I doubt if Forbes has all the answers either. All we can do is await the Obama plan which is touting to spend a trillion $s to restart our economy. All of it borrowed from foreign countries by the way!

    • The man has no political skills. He might be an economic genius, but he's terrible at communicating that information to the American public in a way they can understand. If he knew how to communicate in a way that would comfort the American people and reassure us all that things are going to get better because his team is doing everything they can, I think this whole economic crisis would turn around much faster.
