It is believed (according to numerous bloggers of various political persuasions) have speculated tat Mr Green's latest attempt to leak secret government information relates to its involvement in the "war on terror" and further infringements on civil liberties. His office has accused the Prime Minister of declaring the police state "open for business".

Must there always be name callers? Save the name calling for our own bastards. Must we always find a way to demonize someone who is doing some good by defying what governments want to keep secret. It would appear that many government secrets are just to protect evereones political ass againt the reactions of the people. The governments should never be permitted to coverup their dirt. The freedom of information act is for that purpose but there are many who will try to thwart the rules.

I agree with 'QueerNews' we will probably never know what was going on with said piece of information, if they went to those lengths then maybe they did the right thing? who knows?

whatever it was it makes sense to assume it is a far more serious piece of information that would have caused the general public grave danger or panic

Having read more:
The question really is what did he leak? And who is the Home Office official that gave him the leaks?
If the information was being covered up by the Government and was of public interest then good on him, a free speech bastion.
However if the info was due to be published by the Government and he was just trying to generate controversy before the facts where delivered in context then he's a typical Tory low life.

I was wondering if they would be CCTV footage... will the Tories have the guts to release it or will that too be confiscated under the Official Secrets Act. Either this entire affair is about to escalate out of control or someone was seriously messed up and there are apologies and sackings on the way.

The Speaker and the House authorities will be put under further pressure to explain why police were allowed into an MP's office, after the Tories claimed to have the whole raid on video-camera.

The voice of protest, of warning, of appeal is never more needed than when the clamor of fife and drum, echoed by the press and too often by the pulpit, is bidding all men fall in and keep step and obey in silence the tyrannous word of command. Then, more than ever, it is the duty of the good citizen not to be silent.

I am glad that someone is watching and thinking. The matter should be investigated and everything back to normal soon.

This is absolutely unprecedented. What is the government so afraid of? Is that an election I can smell looming...?

Damian Green: More arrests to follow?
Apparently other Tory MP's are also on the secret service hitlist and are likely to "go into hiding" now that Parliament has taken a few days break/

Mr Green has denied any wrongdoing and is pretty upset for being arrested.
"I have many times made public information that the government wanted to keep secret - information that the public has a right to know. In a democracy, opposition politicians have a duty to hold the government to account. I was elected to the House of Commons precisely to do that and I certainly intend to continue doing so."
I think so long as the information leaked in question doesn't put this country in harms way, politicians should leak away...we do have a right to know!
