A Sikh man who wanted the right to wear a turban while being photographed for his French drivers' license has lost his case in the European Court of Human Rights.

The court ruled that 'identity photographs for use on driving licenses which showed the subject bareheaded were needed by the authorities in charge of public safety.'

The court noted that Muslim women had to remove their headscarves for some identification purposes.

    • in an id photo, they want to see what you look like... and that includes the color of your hair... this way, you can be properly identified and not confused with someone else. but still, i do understand why a muslim might find this offensive.
