Sameh Habeeb reports on the humanitarian crisis taking place inside Gaza's sealed borders.

It has been almost four weeks since Israel decided to completely seal the borders of the Gaza Strip. While Israel has maintained a partial blockade ever since Hamas took power in June of 2007, this is the first time that the Israeli government has elected to stop foreign journalists from entering the Palestinian territory. On Monday, a small number of trucks bringing much-needed fuel and other supplies were permitted to enter for the first time since the full blockade began on November 5th, but within hours the gates had been sealed shut once again in response to rocket fire emanating from inside Gaza. In our conversation with Sameh Habeeb, via phone from inside Gaza City, we hear first hand of the devastating influence that the blockade is having on the lives of those trapped inside the Gaza Strip.

Sameh Habeeb is a Palestinian journalist based in Gaza City.

maybe if you had some respect for mankind, your karma would be better. Take a close look at what is happening to millions of innocent people, not just in Palestine but right under your nose. You choose to demolish innocent people in Palestine and take away from them their one and only true land. What is so wrong about people that want to live in peace? I truly dont care if you are jewish lobby or even Mossad because humans that are being mistreated are more important than them.

Tonight, you will dream of the horrors that Israel is bringing down to all these innocent children and people,
you will dream about the children who have lost limbs and lives to Israels unprovoked attacks,
you will dream about the starvation to millions of innocent people caused by Israels illegal and inhumane treatment....
      Yes...
      you *will* dream this tonight.

    • Not allowing journalists into the area is suspicious. Moreover, the fact that this is the case only shows that Israel is hiding something and sooner or later we will find out. I recently posted a detailed analysis of how this is affecting the people there and it is pretty horrible to say the least. I also sent a message fand press release from a journalist that is in Gaza to the Popes news service at the Vatican to take notice. The International community needs to stand up to this.

    • The blockade will only increase tensions further, guaranteed. And as the report said it, the new generation are developing or have already developed hatred at Israel.

If the West find themselves in an economic crunch and can't support Israel's existence any longer, what will happen to it?

I would say more knowledge as well as seeing thru the propaganda and pr machine that Israel has developed. 'Hatred' is a strong word, but unfortunately it has caused extremism and hate. I believe that can be turned around *if* the west makes a concerted effort to acknowledge wrongs, making them right and changing policy to reflect a more humane and fair treatment. We'd then see much less terrorism. It also makes you wonder who the real terrorists are.
