...two conspicious names not on the list are Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. I’m sure the families of Ramos and Compean will question Bush’s decision to commute the sentence of a drug trafficker (as well as pardon several others convicted of minor drug use or possession), while leaving the two Border Security Guards in prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler. However, it should be noted that if this senseless, expensive debacle called the War on Drugs didn’t exist, none of them would be in prison in the first place...

    • Legalizing all drugs in the US and allowing American Pharmaceutical companies to manufacture and sell them at much lower prices than available on the street would bring the importation of drugs to a near halt.

It is market economics pure and simple. If the price goes down and people can get clean stuff at the pharmacy, why bother with buying illicit drugs that you have no idea how they were manufactured or what contaminants might be present.

The war on drugs has been very profitable for law enforcement because of their ability to seize assets without a guilty verdict.
