Tell the Department of Agriculture: No Biotech, No Biofuels!
The U.S. Agriculture Department is looking to fast-track the deregulation of Genetically Engineered (GE) corn for ethanol production, despite growing evidence that GE crops are dangerous for human health and the environment.
GE crops have been forced on consumers without mandatory labeling or adequate assessment of negative human health and environmental impacts. A recent study by the Austrian government even demonstrated how a type of GE corn cause infertility in lab rats.
The current industrialized processes of creating biofuels, like ethanol, are inherently unsustainable and actually cause more total greenhouse gases and use more petroleum than gasoline.
Please take action below and consider customizing your message. The Organic Consumers Association's Washington, DC staff will personally deliver your letter to the USDA on January 20, 2009.

I think we have to stop BioTech foods completely though. Even if we do label the foods, there are still the problems of the seeds contaminating other crops, easily destroying a whole legacy of seed cultivation as well as spreading destructive bacteria throughout our food chain and destroying the integrity of DNA. This is damage that cannot be reversed. The "Future of Food" also addresses doctor's concerns regarding the introduction of this form of bacteria in our food (the bacteria is used to break "holes" into the DNA chain to alter the food chemically), thereby adding to the already huge dilemma of superbacterial infections that antibiotics cannot treat any more. It is like watching two year olds having fun (and yes, as in "terrible two's), without any thought for long term consequences. The BioTech industry (at least at this timing in history) is not about "saving the world" it is about profit and that is all.

Understood and agreed. But we have start somewhere. Monsanto has had their greedy tentacles wrapped our political system for too long now. It will take effort and time to loosen their grip.

read my lips: "no new taxes"........ That was one of my first cognizant experiances with politics...... The lesson was: While the president may or may not have truth and integrity behind his words and promises while running for office, he can only do so much when it comes to actually following through. I believe the economy will iron itself out regardless of who is president (just now it will be a bit quicker), but still am just waiting to see what Obama can really do. The senate is not filibuster proof and from the last term we can see that they will vote a filibuster on just about anything to stall any sense of progress.

Obama has already said that he will require mandatory labeling.

Didnt we learn by now de-regulating does nothing for the consumers, but it gives endless amounts of profit to the companies???

Parts 2-9 can be found on youtube and current by search. There is a revolution happening in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America, a revolution that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat. This documentary explores the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled grocery store shelves for the past decade. It also examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multi-national corporations seek to control the world's food system.

(less info)
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says that common ALDEHYDES CAUSE CANCER IN HUMANS. Aldehydes (like Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde) are produced when various types of biofuel (especially ethanol) are burned. The European Union has BANNED the use of Formaldehyde throughout all of Europe. In stark contrast, the U.S. Congress REJECTS well-documented scientific input and SUBSIDIZES the production of huge volumes of cancer-causing atmosperic Aldehydes with billions of scarce taxpayer dollars a year, increasing our escalating national debt. Many U.S. legislators do not even know what Aldehydes are, where they come from, or the serious health damage that corrupt politicians have MANDATED.
Brazil burns large quantities of ethanol. Atmospheric Aldehydes are therefore very high in Brazil, which has shortened their average life expectancy.
Do you want the U.S. Congress to FORCE your children to breathe increasing amounts of DEADLY EMBALMING FLUID?
