If you want to live in a democracy leave Califonia

Here is what the LaTimes says:

Here s an important footnote to the string of boycotts and protests by gay-marriage supporters after Proposition 8 was approved by voters last month.

Marjorie Christoffersen, a manager at El Coyote who became a lightning rod for protests because of her donation to supporters of the ban on same-sex marriage, is said to be considering resigning, according to a restaurant official.

El Coyote manager Larry Crenshaw said Christoffersen is considering leaving the eatery, but no final decision has been made.

The restaurant was the scene of protests, pickets and boycotts in the days after voters approved Proposition 8.

Christoffersen, who is Mormon, had given $100 to the Yes on 8 campaign. Her mother owns the restaurant. Crenshaw said Christoffersen has stopped serving and greeting customers at the venerable Mexican eatery known for its margaritas.

Activists opposed to Proposition 8 have launched boycotts of numerous businesses whose owners or employees contributed to initiative, which banned same-sex unions in California.

    • To even dare to cite Martin Luther King to justify hatred and bigotry is nauseous beyond belief. Here is a piece on his widow, Coretta Scott King, who knew him best, and it shows the feelings of the King family on gay rights.

This was published in recognition of her strong support of gay rights when she passed away.

      Coretta Scott King
Our community has lost a powerful and wonderful advocate: Coretta Scott King

Coretta Scott King was an outspoken advocate for the GLBTQ community, continuing the work of her husband and standing strong on the ideals she worked on throughout her life. Not everyone knows what she has said and done regarding gay rights. I hope, through her passing, we are better aware of her powerful words and carry on her legacy.

"We have a lot of work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. I say 'common struggle,' because I believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry & discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking Americans everywhere. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination."

"We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny... I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be," she said, quoting from her husband. "I've always felt that homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy."

      Thank you, Coretta.

    • Unjust persecution is always transformed into a blessing.
This is a law that Martin Luther King and many before him understand clearly

You offer your mistreatment for the sake of those who have done you wrong

Revenge, retribution just make you like the person who hurt you

While gay activits are multiplying enemies, mormons are getting the sympathy of many and making friends and being accepted by people who were never opened to them before.

It would have taken them many years to make the progress that they have made in the last three months

    • She probably will not be hurt much by this. The Mormon church can give her a job and feature her as the Poster Child victim of gay persecution. She could have a whole new career cut out for her.

    • You play you pay.

Why don't all the anti-gay people go and support her? .If you support hate and bigotry than go support her. If you support justice and fairness you might not want to support anti gay people (homophobes)..

    • All she did was to vote her conscience and donate $100.00 to the cause she beleive in.

Radical gays activists have been the one acting like the KKK and the neo Nazis by invading people properties and burning crosses.

Every one knows now the true face of intolerance, hate and anarchy.

It will make it very difficult for the No on 8 crowd to sell their message in a futur campaign and hide the fact that they will suppress religious freedom, parental rights and demand privilieges by force

You side have provided so much public video footage for all to see. You have raised more people against your cause that you can imagine

No doubt. Some amongst the No on 8 crowd has offended and alienated many with their rude and intolerant behavior.

Keep in mind the woman simply donated $100 to a cause that she believed in. She did not picket a gay bar.

-good point, how would you feel if the general population said that your lifestyle was unethical?

Your religion sir is based on a historical text that is out of context with the society that it exists within.

"Keep in mind the woman simply donated $100 to a cause that she believed in. She did not picket a gay bar." -so it would be different if she were outside a gay bar? The intolerance that was voiced through prop 8 should be voiced though a different means?

This is Democracy working- While i think that your close-minded theocratic dogmas are a detriment to a productive society, you still have the right to spray what ever sort of shit you want to out of your hate hole. AND I have every right to call you on that.

Its kinda like fucking with the cobra in the basket- if you leave it alone it will probabaly leave you alone too.

seanblossom said, "how would you feel if the general population said that your lifestyle was unethical? "

Good point. There are some aspects of my lifestyle that the general population does not approve of. Yet that doesn't prompt me to harass them simply because they don't like or approve of my lifestyle.

seanblossom said, "Your religion sir is based on a historical text that is out of context with the society that it exists within. "

I don't HAVE a religion. To assume that I am religious simply because you disagree with something I said is ignorant, bigoted, and narrow minded.

seanblossom said, "While i think that your close-minded theocratic dogmas are a detriment to a productive society, you still have the right to spray what ever sort of shit you want to out of your hate hole."

Again, you're making far reaching blanketed assumptions here. You've characterized me as being "religious" based on what seems to be an inflexible and prejudiced world view that only recognizes two diametrically opposed positions.

    • This is democracy. People are free to not support an establishment that opposes equality for all people. If this women were a member of the Ku Klux Klan or a neo-Nazi, it is doubtful that many blacks or Jews would want to dine there.

Not supporting an establishment that doesn't support one's views is one thing, but staging protests and pickets there is behavior is harassing, immature, and downright rude. Some might call this behavior "intolerant".
