It defied the Luftwaffe during the Blitz - not to mention Britain’s own air-raid wardens when it was left on during the blackout.

Now this light bulb is about to outlive Woolworths, the shop where it was bought more than 65 years ago for one old penny.

    • Wow..that's breathtaking! I wonder if they have any stories about old boring candles too! Those new and toxic mercury filled compact florescent bulbs are supposed to last even longer! I wish I could see those headlines now!

    • If it goes out - it should be put in the Museum of History but I don't really believe a light bulb could really last that long. Mine never do even with the new bulbs on the market that are supposed to last longer than traditional bulbs. Maybe it should be cast on Ripley's Believe It or Not.

    • Have you thought that this confirms how crappy light bulbs are nowdays?

Nobody would buy light bulbs no more if they would last a lot of time. It would save the planet from so much pollution and our pockets too.

Have you thought also that in this light bulb there might be the secret to overcome wear and tear.
It could lead us to a discovery.
The obvious is what was questioned by the greatest scientists and inventors of this world, just keep that in mind.

    • The Daily Mail sometimes completely baffle me with their choice of stories... I mean...a light bulb that is pretty old and still works? A whole article on it?

Did I miss a meeting about how interesting light bulbs are?

The article says the spots are paint flecks from when her father painted the bulb during WWII; they were not supposed to have any lights on, so he painted the light bulbs to make them dimmer and avoid fines.
