Beautiful.
I like that it's not just a straight-up news piece. I kind of feel like I know her. Like I've seen her around or something. Thanks

Excellent journalism.
Has anything been heard from Esha? Is she allowed any outside contact or communication?
Forgive me this next question but, does anyone know if she is still alive?
I ask this knowing full well the unholy mistreatment of women throughout the Middle East and, sadly, around the world. - 3 years ago

Thank you for the feedback!
On the last slide it says: Esha is at home with her parents in Iran.
Her passport is being detained, but her friends and teachers continue to fight for her return to the states.
Charges have not been dropped to my knowledge.

The women of the One Million Signature Campaign, which Esha is a member of, created a blog that updates her status.

Its not because they are not peaceful, its because of RADICAL ISLAM that believes that women should be covered from head to toe to prevent men from having "lust" and should be under control of their husbands, and some won't even let women leave their home without their husband or male relative. There was a documentary about Islam in Algeria and how it is becomming ;more radical and what it has done to women.
Its is close to slavery imho. Husbands can beat their wives if they want, and deny them healthcare. That Ayatolla (sp...) is really running Iran, not the craz y president. Fundamentalism in any form is crazy and dangerous.

Okay, it's not just laws.
It's a state of mind.Radical Islam is most definitely the problem here. Women are constantly being sexually abused, treated like secondhand citizens and de facto discrimination does not help.
There is no other religion that treats women as poorly as Islam.
This student got caught in the crossfire while trying to help the women's cause. It's apparent that the government in Iran has no respect for women.

I don't think it has much to do with radical Islam as much as it has to do with women's rights around the world.
Laws should be changed.

yes, laws need to be changed around the world. But radical Islam interprets the Koran in a way that dehumanizes women, as some of the fundamental Christian sects make women weal longs dresses and not cut their hair, be subserviant to men, and stay home.
Imho its not Islam, but radical Islam. And Laws won't work if leaders are afraid to enforce them. - 3 years ago

Leaders aren't afraid to enforce them. The leaders are men. The leaders are happy with the way things are.
The Abrahamic religions have fundamentalists who find ways to manipulate their chosen dogma in order to repress women, yes. But modern society in the West and East should be able to pass laws that empower women, right?
Mohammed is seen as a pioneer in women's rights to a lot of Muslims around the world. He empowered women by giving them roles in the army and did not want them to be seen as sex objects.
Why can't the Theocratic government of Iran see women as such?

The thing I find so horrible about radical Islam is their abuse of women.
Also their intolerance towards other religions, and in this they are not alone, as some Christians sects are just as intolerant, but not as violent. - 3 years ago
