Really Obama – Gupta? Can't you find someone more qualified than a TV spin doctor to heal America?

AndreaKnoll
CNN's medical "expert" Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the man Obama wants for Surgeon General. This is a sick choice for the post given that Gupta got many key facts wrong in a CNN "Fact Check" report he did on Moore's pro-universal healthcare film Sicko. Gupta also displayed thinly veiled contempt for the state run healthcare systems in other countries –– not a good sign given that Obama is hoping to install a similar system here in the U.S. during his presidency. Moore didn't let Gupta get away with his shoddy treatment, curing the situation by calling Gupta on his lies and misinformation in a detailed post on his website and in a follow-up debate hosted by Larry King.

    • Maybe we could get a Hamas doctor to please you guys, and he could treat just you. And his only interest would be anarchy and killing Israelis, he would drive a VW bus, smoke Hash, only wash once every two months, never wash his dreads. And you guys could be LIKE a big family touting world peace and singing kombya. Gupta is the BEST choice Obama did good!!! Civilization trumps your sensibilities or lack of.........

    • I really have no problem with Gupta working with obama. He may seem like he is putting the spin on the news, but can you argue that his reportings are completely false? At least obama appoints someone who knows about the medical field, instead of oil plant managment.

    • NEW YORK (AP) — If Barack Obama wants a surgeon general with visibility to promote health issues in his administration, it can't hurt to hire a CNN correspondent called one of People magazine's "sexiest men alive."

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon and one of CNN's busiest personalities, is under consideration by the president-elect for the job. Should the offer come, CNN said Gupta has indicated he is likely to take it. Obama will have a man who has interrupted a TV assignment to perform emergency brain surgery and gotten into it on air with Michael Moore.

He has a weekend health show on CNN and has traveled across the country for a series on the dangers of obesity called "Fit Nation." Soon he may have the chance to do something similar for the government.

Gupta, 39, grew up in the Detroit area, the son of parents who moved from India in the 1960s to work at a Ford plant. He earned undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan.

While he works at CNN and for CBS News, Gupta is also a faculty member at the neurology department at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He performs surgery at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital.

Gupta's no stranger to the White House; he was one of 15 White House fellows appointed in 1997 and he advised Hillary Rodham Clinton while she was first lady.

Gupta joined CNN in 2001 as a health correspondent. In addition to efforts like "Fit Nation" and 2008 documentaries on the health toll taken on presidents, Gupta has talked about health angles of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina. Since 2006, he's also had a contract with CBS News to do health stories on the "CBS Evening News."
This guy is an excellent choice, Moore is splitting hairs because he is JEALOUS that the good doctor is an all American story, unlike his fat sickening ass. The doctors family strives to be American, Michael Moron strives to be UNAMERICAN!!! And MM has succeeded.

    • I watched the videos and thought they were a squabble between egos. I think if Gupta is brought on board he will be an asset. Michael Moore is already an asset. What's the problem?

    • Blitzer defended Gupta as an expert on medical issues and called him an "excellent, excellent journalist." The show's devoting another day to Moore, and Gupta may yet have his moment to respond.

    • The problem I have is that Gupta has direct financial ties to both the media and big pharma industries.

Everything he has ever done for CNN has been sponsored by big pharma or littered with their ads.

As for his medical credentials or standing in the field, I wont touch that.
He is undoubtedly an expert in his fields of study.

If not for his hefty financial ties to the above mentioned industries I would have no problem.

I guess it depends on where his loyalties lay.

Either way its a good choice for Obama.
Either he is right for the job OR he is an enemy to the system and needs to be kept close and in submission.

I to would keep my enemies close and under my direct command, forcing them to work against their own twisted ideals and support an era of CHANGE.

Makes ya wonder what the hell is going on in that brain of his...

    • Gupta is a fine surgeon, his problem is the stance he took against Michael Moore who knows his shit on how screwed up the medical system is in America. It is time for single payer health system or medicare for all.

      dude please cite facts.

      from his wiki:

"In 2003, Gupta traveled to Iraq to cover the medical aspects of 2003 invasion of Iraq. While in Iraq, Gupta performed emergency surgery on both U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians. Gupta was embedded with a Navy medical unit at the time. A Marine named Jesus Vidana suffered a severe head injury and the Marines asked for Gupta's assistance because of his background in neurosurgery. Vidana survived and was sent back to the United States for rehabilitation.["

      and:

"Gupta specializes in all facets of neurosurgical care with a strong interest in complicated spine, trauma and 3-D image guided operations. He has recently had articles published on percutaneous pedicle screw placement. He has also published on brain tumors and spinal cord abnormalities."

knowing the medical field, as i do very well, there is no way this man hasn't proven his worth in the OR.

please cite facts or don't post blatant lies.
