I am for the notion of being tough on crime, however the maximum penalty would be excess here. Further, a possible max of life in prison for killing a dog is ridiculous when you can get FAR less time for killing a person... and no a dog is not a person regardless of how attached some people are in a sickening manner.

i'm not simply comparing afro-americans to to dogs, i'm comparing humans to animals and how there are parallels in how they've both been exploited.
i realize animals aren't humans, but 'people' is a semantic distinction, especially if you're speaking about legal personhood. so for example, even though native americans hunted animals for their survival, some tribes would refer to animals as types of people, like 'the buffalo people' and had a much more equitable view of them. language reflects worldview, and vice versa.
