Police said they only learned of the deal after the 36-year-old man went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised. The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking.

Looks like it's catchy. This is America SD screw the history lesson. He deserves prison, and she deserves parents that care for her. I hope it was at least a good Ale.

The father is so stupid to think that he would actually get away with it by calling the police

I hope it was premium beer.
People act shocked but this is how it was (has been?) for thousands of year - arranged marriages thru trade and barter. In England, the bride came with a dowry not the other way round (must say something about english girls;) - I kid! I kid!)
I agree that the father should be punished but I am a bit wary of slapping the 18 year old wouldbe groom/buyer with stat rape considering there's only 4 years difference in age. It's not like she was 12 and him 42. He can't even drink legally for another 3 years - which is why he may have been willing to part with the beer in the first place.
